- Catedral de Malaga, a cathedral unique in architecture and history is located right in the heart of the city centre

- Picasso Museum has exclusive paintings and exhibitions by the great painter

Even though Barcelona houses the lion’s share of masterpieces by the famous painter Picasso, Malaga is regarded as the birthplace of the famous artist. More than 100 years ago Malaga bred one of the greatest personalities of Cubism painting. He spent the first 10 years of his life in Malaga and recently one of the world’s famous museums with works by Picasso on display has been opened in the city.

Back to the days the city was founded, Malaga had little influence in the world art. It was sustained through commerce and trade in the port of the Emirate of Granada. Soon the trade went up with the textile factories, sugar and steel mills founded in the area. But the England of the Victorian Era associated Malaga with the sweet taste of the wine produced in the city. The prosperity of Malaga was a bit disturbed in 1937 when the city became a place of bloodshed. Nationalist sympathizers were killed within the city itself serving as the Republican stronghold.

Today the interesting past of the city only adds to the tourist interest to Malaga. Mass tourism arrived to the city in the 1950s and since then it has all comforts of the big city. From the flat screen TV to Jacuzzi in your room, Booked.net can organize your stay within the city.
