     Chattanooga is vivid and welcoming with pedestrian-friendly streets and free electric buses. But it wasn't always the way it is today as were days when it took efforts to breathe within the city. The fact is Chattanooga was an industrial engine of the region thriving on manufacturing.

    This led to heavy pollution of the area that led to it being designated America's most polluted by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in 1980. Chattanooga, shamed by this, focused efforts to clean up the industrial mess and became a service-oriented city for business. The moves worked and with the turn of 21st century it was ranked as one of the cleanest destinations in America.      Today the city is working to relive and revive its past and takes huge efforts to bring it to tourists.
