It's up to you whether to start with filling dining or the city's past, but your stay in Lyon should be comfortable. With Booked.net you can choose from a cheap hotel in Lyon or one packed with luxuries all available with maps, photos and secure forms.
It is second only to Paris in terms of Michelin-starred restaurants with the finest cuisine and skilled chiefs. Actually, it took more from the Paris of the 1930s than just good cuisine. Elegant renaissance houses, tree-lined boulevards blending with tiny cobbled streets and arched bridges… These are set in the shadow of high-rises in Paris, but in a full view and preserved in Lyon. Other attractions include;
- St Jean Cathedral, dedicated to both St John the Baptist and St Stephen
- St Jean archaeological garden shows the remains of the religious buildings back to the 4th century
- Rue St Jean, a cobbled pedestrian street and a great tourist draw being packed with souvenir shops and restaurants
- Place du Change, the largest square lined with remarkable buildings
These landmarks are steeped in the city's history. The city began under the Romans in the first century BC as a capital of the three Gauls. Lyon saw political, economic and religious growth in terms of the Roman Empire and by the 15th century became an important trade center with its banking system fueling commercial interests across the world. Even though the French Revolution in 1789 brought a defeat to the French monarchy, growth continued under Napoleonic rule. Since then Lyon became an industrial hub carrying this reputation to the 20th century.
Today it thrives on the most important industries in Europe, like biotechnology, software development, game design and internet services making it the second richest city after Paris. Even among tourists, approximately 60 percent come there for business, but the rest visit it for leisure.
Regardless to the goals of your stay in Lyon, Booked.net will help to find a hotel that best suits your needs.
