Alles ok, not impressive. 80's feeling throughout. Smelly entry.

Some waiters are perfect, others rude

This is actually a historical landmark in Heidelberg and tour groups visit it! Each room was different and offered various amenties-tub versus shower, for example. Old World decor and views of The Castle. Fabulous location -can walk to almost everything. Would definitely stay here again.

Tiniest of complaints-the baths linens were terrible! I use better and thicker ones when washing my car!

Historic building located in the city centre in a pedestrian precinct. Vaulted ceiling, grand staircase etc

Unfortunately our room 206, a middle grade room, seemed to have been created from two smaller rooms (according to the fire escape map) and was squeezed next to a corridor with a partition wall. Quite a decent floor area, but very long and narrow and no character. It was also hot, enjoying a large but noisy fan but no air conditioning. We were only there one night so did not ask to be moved, English reserve!

The friendly people at the front desk who took care of any need immediately. And of course the location of the Ritter can't be beat. To walk out the front door and be situated where all the tour buses had to drive an hour to was fantastic.

The only issue I ran into was the room didn't have air-conditioning and the weather was still warm and muggy at times. Luckily the temp dropped and I opened the windows for most of the week to cool off the room. Still a fantastic place to stay.

      Nice large room. Very clean.

Lift not working - we were on the 4th floor. If we had been more elderly / disabled then we would not have been able to stay in this hotel.

We thought the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was wonderful and we ate dinner in the restaurant on both nights of our stay. The meals were excellent and reasonably priced.

The only thing we don't appreciate about hotels in Europe in general is the lack of a top sheet on beds. We find duvets uncomfortably hot during the summer and would appreciate the choice of having just a sheet (or sheet and light blanket).

Right in the middle of the old town, perfect location, close to everything.

Small bathroom, even small shower place. Curtaindoes not stop street and building (since it is a turistatraction) ligths from entering the room, canread with that amount of ligth. And if you can sleep with the bell of the church in front less than 10 meters from your ears every half an hour...

I am not happy with the hotel.

The bad smell in the hotel and in the room. I have not see a radiator or heating inside the room.

Nice location, in the centre of the old town, and at walking distance from the cable-car to the castle and the shopping area.

The architecture of the hotel, so prominently advertised, virtually disappears in the rooms, giving way to quite seasoned furniture, flooring and bathroom. In this view the rates appear excessive.

The location of the hotel could not have been better. We could walk to everything. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.

The hotel was opposite the church. The church bells rang loudly every fifteen minutes. Other guests sang and shouted outside the hotel until 6.00 am so kept us awake all night.

The only factor that make the hotel attractive is its location. At the end of Haupstrasse it is convenient for shopping and to see the City's attractions.

The hotel is old, to arrive to the room you have to climb stairs, linen needs serious attention and the reception desk is very basic.

The staff was professional & friendly. Accomodations were nice and had a convieniant location. Quaint accomodations.

Hotel is older and the elevator is small, which makes it difficult to transport suitcases. Would recommend to a friend only if they were not concerned wiith price and more on location.

      • Average rating
    • Older travelers

Excellent location (right in the heart of Heidelberg Old Town), which meant all the main attractions were easy to reach on foot. Evening dinner and breakfast were also of good quality (although, at eur 12.50 in addition to room charge, the latter was expensive (with cheaper breakfasts available at many other places just a few yards away around the Old Town). Very 'romantic'/'historical' building which has charm and certainly distinguishes the hotel from all others in the city. Staff also friendly and helpful.

Noise from late night revellers (up to C. 3.00/4.00 am every evening of our stay) (and then street cleaning/garbage collection etc. which started up at C. 6.00am!) meant we did not really have one night's decent sleep. The lift also broke down on the fist full day of our stay (and we were on the third floor!) and, as this was a Friday, it did not get repaired until the Monday morning. (At the price paid, the hotel should have paid the extra charge for a weekend call-out). The room was also quite humid and only air conditioning was a free-standing fan (which could not be left on if you wanted to sleep). Conclusion: If, as a hotel, you are going to charge 'Hilton' prices, people will expect a 'Hilton' level of service (double glazing/noise insulation, reliable elevators, air conditioning) and 'historic atmosphere and good location' are no longer good enough just on their own.
