If you have trouble figuring out how all this variety of attractions got concentrated in Tulsa, go back to its old days.
Originally, the area had been settled by native tribes before an initiative of President Andrew Jackson in 1836. The United States Government then opened this territory for intense settlement in 1889 that led to the time Tulsa was incorporated as a city in 1898. It had only 1000 residents and thrived on cattle trade. The situation changed when oil was discovered at Red Fork in 1901. Since then the city became known as the Oil Capital of the World, but it led to the pollution of the region and waters of Arkansas River.
After oil era declined, another business came - aerospace and aircraft. Today, Tulsa has more than 300 aviation companies with a large number of financial corporations also headquartered in Tulsa. This prosperous city is home to 382,872 people with a large number of them foreign born as relocated there for business.
This migration is the main reason Tulsa has diverse ethnic makeup - 70.1 percent white, 15.5 percent African American, 4.7 percent Native American, 1.8 percent Asian and so on. For these people, the forested regions of this compact city set sandwiched between the edge of the Great Plains and the foot of the Ozark Mountains became home.
You can feel this Tulsa's hospitality when look around its green surrounding and impressive architecture. As history has it, the city grew rapidly and its cityscape mainly was shaped in the 20th century that means you will find a huge Art Deco backdrop there. Thus, Tulsa is regarded to be one of the main world cities with Art Deco architecture.Attractions include;
- Creek Council Oak Tree, first town hall, later conference room and church
- Gilcrease Museum, has the world's largest collection of Western and Native American art
