     Tourism is relatively new in Hanoi, beginning in 1993 fueling the city's growth to an enticing Asian city. This change increased the fusion between traditional values and modern influences from dives to luxury restaurants, modest markets to huge supermarkets and exquisite shops and on.

     But the march of progress has hardly reshaped Hanoi's Asian feel, which is rooted in its past days. Established in 1010, Hanoi became a powerhouse of the Indochina Union under French rule and in 1954 was given the status of the official capital of independent Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was designated the first Vietnamese president who led the foundation of the cityscape of Hanoi. Today those initial smaller buildings sit in the shadow of modern high-rises blending with massive French residences from past days.

Attractions include;

- One-Pillar Pagoda, charming construction based in water

- Fine Arts Museum, an interesting museum with wonderful pictures of soldiers and art of the 20th century wars.

- Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and features numerous stone tablets

- Hoan Kiem Lake, a beautiful park in the center in a few minutes from the Old Quarter

     You may also find some gaps in your sightseeing schedule for shopping in Hanoi. During your travels, you will obviously find markets with variety of goods for sale like souvenirs and crafts. For example, at Hang Da Market, Cho Hom Market and Dong Xuan Market you may find a good buy and even traditional food can be. But for tourists it is affordable to visit local restaurants offering traditional Asian cuisine with many dishes to sample.
