Lexington is a child of a big political contest. The city was connected with the establishment of Morrow County, and the main goal was to win a status for governmental seat. It had to contest with Heppner for this honor, but was beaten.

Anyway, the town was blessed with important manufacturing facilities and thrived on this business till the great fire burned the principal business district to ashes. Joseph Cannon and James Bradley were sentenced to five years each for this fire, but it took huge efforts for the city to recover from the severe shock.

Today Lexington re-emerged as prosperous manufacturing and technology hub with most of its population of 436,684 residents employed in this business.
