     Tallahassee was established as an Indian Settlement thriving on agriculture. Even its name, derived from the Muskogee Indian word for ''old fields'' reflects its concern with fertile soils. In 1821, the American took over the area and established there the governmental seat for the city's central location in the state of Florida. When the Civil War defeated Florida, Tallahassee was the only city to avoid the armed forces.  

     Today Tallanahassee is the most prominent collage city in Florida with such educational centers as Florida A&M University and Florida State University. This makes the city attract young people to the area and from 150,624-strong population only 6 percent are retirees, while the rest is active residents not to mention tourists who flock the city annually.
