But facts push Lucerne away from fabled stories to a fishing community that quickly evolved into a trading post at the Gotthard pass joining Lucerne to the Alp's gateway and then to France. In the 19th  century the biggest part of the old-world architecture was in decay while waiting for renovation. Short of money, Lucerne managed to pour money to tart up its face only in 1850s on cash earned from railroad transitions.

Since then its charming look started attracting legions of tourists, and the city of Lucerne never looked back. In addition, new amenities arrived to the city packing it with world-class dining, stylish clubs, pubs and other public houses.
