- Xiao Qingdao Park was used for military purposes and it features a lighthouse from the 1900s

- Qingdao Naval Museum traces the history of the Chinese navy

In 1891, Qingdao was established for military purposes as a defense base to prevent naval attacks. As the city was soon ceded to the Germans, they developed it into an important port town. The establishment of the Far East Squadron serving for operations throughout the Pacific only strengthened the reputation of the military based city. In 1914 Qingdao changed hands to Japan, but returned to Chinese rule in 1922.

A change in Qingdao occurred when China initiated its open-door policy in 1984. It led to foreign trade and investments to the city therefore Qingdao re-emerged as a prosperous port city. However, it is still stuck to the military past with the Chinese navy's northern fleet based in the city.

The city's government also understands the importance of tourism to the city. That is why a large share of investments and money are spent for tourist attractive events like Qingdao International Sea Festival, the Beach Culture Festival, the Sea Affection Festival, and the Summer of Qingdao Festival. A large number of restaurants sprang up throughout the city serving delicious seafood and true Qingdao Beer.

This focus on tourism stimulated large-scale construction within the city that resulted in the abundance of Qingdao hotels available at Booked.net.
