On the plus side, Zamas has a slick website, easy booking, and a gorgeous location on the ocean.

It was more expensive than other places we'd stayed in Mexico, but the location was great.

Great location for an evening meal and beach: Cleaned every morning we were there.

It is fun to explore the other resorts' restaurants on foot at night with a flashlight or take a cab to town or toward the ruin.

We were booked into a king sized room with ocean views, and it was visually beautiful, with two king beds (not built for tall people though), a bed window seat, large veranda, and huge bathroom.

The only thing preventing me from giving Zamas an "excellent" rating were the beds - the room was great, but my GOD was the bed firm.

There is a water bottle for you to use in the bathroom and a mosquito net for the bed.

The bed was huge as was the bathroom and they are cleaned every day, plus every other day you get new sheets and towels (which the lovely cleaner fashions into some kind of creature).

First, our room leaked as no one sealed the windows during installation, and our bathroom floor was perpetually wet, while our bedroom floor was wet after each rain and perpetually sandy.

We tried several restaurants on "Cabana row" (each resort seems to have it's own small bar / restaurant that it operates) and we were pretty sure that Zamas took first place.

Breakfast lunch and dinner the Que Fresco restaurant was the most happening place to be with live bands playing on the weekend to a dining area lit by candlelight on the sand.

Jude Law and Sienna Miller were at Zamas in January for a drink in the lovely beach bar/restaurant and wanted to stay, unfortunately for them the rooms weren't private enough as there were too many sneaky paps around.

We stayed at Azulik, an eco hotel down the street from Zamas, but ate almost every meal at Zamas' restaurant.

We ate at Que Fresco, the restaurant on site, for nearly every meal because it was so good.

The staff at the restaurant/front desk were all friendly and helpful, especially Elmer!

As others have noted, there's no staff dedicated to the cabanas (the restaurant serves as the "hotel desk"), and so folks who want the services of a concierege should look elsewhere.

As a result, the staff are still very busy resurrecting the place and this means that the service is probably a bit more stretched than usual.

All the staff in the restaurant seemed indifferent to providing any kind of service.

Parking is available in the private parking lot across the street.

We do not expect to be bathed in Evian, inundated with air conditioning, or to be able to book a water-aerobics class in a freshwater pool proximal to the Gulf of Mexico.

When I told the parking fellow in Spanish that there was a "gato muerto" he actually laughed.

This one was a jewel with a separate king bedroom, three separate outdoor patios, nice tile work and furnishings, extremely clean and very private, with AMAZING ocean and jungle views.

We were shown to our room, which was bright, airy and clean.

The best place I have ever stayed in Mexico, the rooms are clean and the food is better at Mezzanine.
