It was my first time to New York and I thought the West Side Inn was in a great location, lots of resturants nearby, a short stroll to Central Park, and close to Subways.

The location is good too, just three blocks down Broadway from the nearest subway station and only a few metres down West 107th Street from Broadway so it felt safe to walk home from subway and nearby restaurants after dark.

The location of the hotel (which shouldn't really be called a hotel, it's more of a hostel) is absolutely fantastic, with lots of bars, coffee shops and restaranuts within a couple of minutes walk.

It was really easy to get a taxi from the end of the street, straight to Times Square, 5th Avenue etc and it is only around $12-$15 each time, if you are on more of a budget, then the subway is very close by.

The staff were friendly enough, arranged an airport transfer with Airlink for me, which is much better value than a taxi.

It was a nice big room with 2 beds and a bunk bed and a working tv and a small refrigerator.

This room was bigger, again 2 beds and a bunk bed with a refrigerator.

The room consisted of twin bunk beds and a single bed AND THAT'S ALL.

I got quite the surprise when I opened up the door on the room, there was a double bed and a bunk in this room with a small closet and a tv and air conditioner that was louder than a NYC cab horn.

The room was small and there was paint that was peeled off the wall, but there was a TV, a bed, and a window.

There is nice nearby cafes to eat in as well as a few shops and restaurants.

We told the desk about this problem and went out to eat breakfast and when we came back the maintance guy was working on the lock.

A old fashioned cheap dinner, place called the Metro Dinner where you can eat a big breakfast and the cost for 2 people is about $17 plus tips.

There's quite a few places around for breakfast and dinner too.

My daughter and I walked to Columbia - enjoying a good $4 breakfast in a working class diner.

We spoke to the staff at the front desk, who were breathtakingly unhelpful.

The reception staff where helpful, every one we met in there was of simiiar age (early 20's) and very friendly.

Staff was friendly and there were no problems with our reservation.

From the second we arrived we were treated like lost family, the hostel was clean, comfortable and the staff was great.

We took the rickety old elevator, which creeped ever so slowly, to our floor (we never took it again after that).

The lift gets stuck, as some of my friends found when they were in it (if you keep pressing floor 2 the issue seems to be resolved).

The only problem i foun was the tempermental lift.

Bathrooms are clean or at least were clean when we used them.

We were right across from the bathroom which was spotless and we never had to wait.

The bathrooms were clean, the neighborhood is safe, the mattresses were not that uncomfortable, the price was right.

My Room was Clean and Comfortable, and smelled great.

The Shared bathrooms (of which there were two on my floor) were as clean as the guest before me had left them.
