West End Studios Hotel

The location is out of the busy part of the city with many store and restaurants nearby.

Great location, near the sub, neighboorhood seems quite safe.

The location of West End Studios is also great.

Subway station is near to the hostel (1-train, which will take you actually to every attraction in the city: Times Squere, World Trade Center, ferry to Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building.

The only good thing about this hotel that it was only one block from subway.

It is infested with cockroaches, dirty bed sheets, soiled carpets, squeaky beds and impossible to lock the doors on your room properly (it looks like its been broken into on several occasions).

We got one with a small double bed i had to share with my 20 year old son and the other party had a cramped room with a single and bunk beds.

In the morning, in the bath room (several rooms share one bath room), there was no hot water at all.

As for the 'West End Studios' basically it was a youth hostel, with again sheets nailed at the windows, and very old and dirty bathrooms, dirty bedrooms - not the holiday hideasway we had hoped for and it ruined our trip.

The rooms were creapy (cardboard in the windows)and the bed unclean - I like to think that the sheets had been washed since the last guest, but due to the finding of hair and blood (!

Don't forget to check out Tom's Restaurant on 110th (i think) great breakfast!

On the right on the coner of Broadway there is a small deli that serves good & cheap breakfast sandwiches/coffee.

If U stay be sure to visit bagle-factory for breakfast!

My tip for breakfast: Make left out the door of West End.

Just one block to the deli's if you need food, drinks, cigarettes, phone cards.

The room service is only upon the request, so if you want the housekeeper to clean your room you have to ask about this and leave the key at the front desk.

The front desk staff was pleasant and friendly.

When we went to the front desk to inquire about our beds, they instantly said your service was at fault, blaming Cheaptickets for giving us an inaccurate description of our beds.

I found this out when I started talking to one of the night managers; imagine that, if you're friendly to someone, you might get better service in return.

They have also the internet access in the lobby!

Requested housekeeping once and they came.

The elevator is hardly big enough for 2 people.

And it was great, the room was nice and clean.

Price was great and room was simple and clean.

The bathrooms were clean and pleanty of them, one shower was a little broken but not so that it affected its use.

I didn't mind the shared bathrooms - they were clean.
