The breakfast was amazing, with a great variety of options. The upgraded room was clean and comfortable, with a spacious layout. The staff were friendly and professional, even providing a replacement hairdryer. The location was convenient, close to downtown, bus stops, and stores. a good price for the stay.
No negatives from this place.

Room was waitinf for us to come from 12.00 till 17.00 when we arrived. Guests are allowed, giftshop inside, free wifi, waterfront view.
Beds were noisy and old, actually there was no double-bed, but two combined with a row-hole in between, no fridge in the room, water of brown color and with a smell, no hairdryer in the room

All of a sudden they made me a good discount because of late arrival.
Quite cold room (in the winter). Scent of tobacco smell in the shower. No fresh milk at breakfast.

The Hotel Volga exceeded my expectations in several ways. the prices were incredibly reasonable, especially considering the amazing view of the Volga River. Secondly, the attentive and helpful staff made my stay even more enjoyable. Finally, the breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of options to choose from.
No major issues, everything was satisfactory.

I like the city of Kostroma and travel there rather often. And despite of my intention to try other hotels each time I end up in Volga :-) due to its excellent location and splendid terrace. Plus the hotel has Wi-Fi (at least at the lobby area), vast parking space at symbolic price per day, rather abundant breakfasts, cheap business lunches, pleasant music at the restaurant. And what a view (but for that you need to ask for a room looking at Volga...) It is a typical former Soviet hotel that is trying to do its best to be adequate to more sophisticated demand. Most of the time it fails but at least it is a nice try....
I booked in advance but when we arrived the receptionist informed us that the price for the first night will be higher due to a "city day". I was too tied after the journey and not in a adequate mood to dispute but it is outrageous policy,,, Since this hotel is the choice No 1 for numerous touristic bus groups from Moscow and other cities most probably it will be very noisy and if you are sensitive to that sweet dreams are not guaranteed. Its views, if you can see the Volga from your room.
Disappointing hotel. The rooms are of The 40s and what to say about the bathroom: is horrible. And the worst of the whole treatment got for the staff. The people who work in Reception Do not help you at all, with a very bad English and a personal very disagreeable attention. We went to ask a doubt about a bus and they got angry with us. They didn't extract a map to locate ourselves at least. We would never recommend this hotel to anybody.

Stayed here twice and had a great experience. Room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing with a lot of options. The staff was very friendly and professional. The hotel is located very near to the main attractions and on the coast of Volga river.
Can't fault anything about it.

It has a nice view to the Volga river and the city.
The building is very old and poorly maintained, the furniture is old and the rooms are cold.

We enjoyed the beautiful view from our room and the convenient location close to the city center. The bed and linens were comfortable and clean. One of the best aspects was the affordable price compared to other options in the area.
The room itself wasn't very clean and there were stains on the walls. The staff wasn't very helpful or friendly either, which made us feel unwelcome during our romantic escape.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel on the coast of Volga river. The location was perfect - very near the main attractions and with a view of the Volga. The service and staff were outstanding, attending to every detail. The rooms, while in the old communist style, were clean and comfortable. And the breakfast buffet had a wide selection of delicious items.
All was great!

We stayed at a hotel on the coast of Volga river, which was very near to the main attractions. The view of the river was amazing, and the location was perfect for exploring. The service was also very helpful and nice, and the room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. In the restaurant, we had excellent food and service.
The breakfast buffet was not up to par with the rest of the hotel's quality.

The breakfast was fabulous and the staff was amazing! The location was ideal - close to downtown and transportation. the shower pressure was perfect and the room was spacious, with great wifi and TV channels. Oh, and the bed was super comfortable - I slept like a baby.
Despite the many positives, the room could use some updating. The carpets were worn and had some damage, there were a lot of bugs in the room, and the view wasn't very pleasant.
