Hotel Villa Sofia is an historical 19th century palazzo which has been transformed into an exclusive first class hotel surrounded by a 4-000 square metre park filled with ancient trees. The hotel closed in 2001 for a meticulous and complete renovation - re-opening in 2004 to offer discerning guests the wonderful combination of charming architecture - liberty style decoration with original furniture and chandeliers and all possible modern comforts and amenities. The 34 hotel rooms offer air-conditioning - telephone - satellite TV - hairdryer - minibar and a safe.The hotel entrance is a closed gazebo in wrought iron and large windows all around offering views onto the garden and terrace. Guests are welcome to relax in the cosy lounge bar - furnished with rattan furniture and antique Persian rugs - or outside on the terrace where snacks are served. During the summer months the marvellous swimming pool is open in the park and is a lovely spot for a drink or a light snack. Hotel Villa Sofia offers a charming breakfast room and guests can dine in the Angelo Landi restaurant at the Hotel Savoy Palace. It is in a very quiet location on the hill above the gardone riviera.
Although the hotel is up a steep hill it is in a great location because you can walk to lower Gardone (the main town) or, behind the hotel you can walk up another steep hill to Upper Gardone.
Not a very big area for sun bathing, perfect location - away from the crowds - small hotel - so not many people - good breakfast and the staff is very welcoming.
Fortunately , the neighbouring resort of Salo (easily reached in 10 mins by bus or boat) had much more to offer.
The hotel is furnished to a high standard and immaculately clean and fortunately almost empty when we stayed as the walls are very thin and you can hear everything going on next door (bedroom & bathroom!
Our room was above the reception so the view was not great but some of the rooms must have had stunning views!
Very nice rooms and breakfast was enjoyable outside.
Free of charge parking, the staff were helpful and welcoming, room was large.
We had an amazing view of Lake Garda from our balcony, the hotel room was good and the staff were all very welcoming.
They don't have in-house restaurant for lunch or dinner yet they will recommend you for nice pizzeria or an excellent restaurant near by.
The hotel only does breakfast and a limited lunch but both were nice.
The breakfast is buffet style and there is plenty to eat but don't expect a full Irish breakfast, the style is obviously continental.
Gardone Riviera is very limited - very few shops (from a time warp in the 50's) handful of virtually empty restaurants.
From pretty local pizzerias to high class restaurants.
The room was clean and kept that way with a maid service every day.
Location is tremendous - away from the busy road close to the lake, there are several interesting places to visit in the area around the hotel and the staff is very welcoming.
The hotel staff were all really nice and made the stay very pleasant.
