What I liked in Villa Sandalwood were the rooms, interior of the building, the staff (Jagudh) who took care of us.
I paid 65$ per night which was way expensive then better hotels in kandy. This room didnot have an intercom to call anyone, so we took the number of staff and would call everytime we needed anything. There were no tooth brushes and shampoo available it was bought by staff in the morning when requested. Breakfast was an egg , juice and fruits I guess thats the standard at most place in kandy but food wasnt tasty. The location of this place is completely out of track, our driver didnt know the directions to hotel at night n got to know on phone from staff. Wouldnt recommend going out at night in such a dark lane n then steep hill. This hotel shouldnt charge so much when such less facility also there was no view from my room, I could only see branches of trees. Also there is such sound which keeps coming at night as well as in morning I am guessing its from a church near by. Overall I wouldnot recommend anyone to stay here for the price paid. Unless its cheaper to 30$ may be then also not.

The rooms were nice and comfortable But it was a dissapointment to see there were no tooth brushes or toiletry items present with the price that we paid 65$ per nightfor 2 people for this house was too expensive It also disnt have any view except frm roof top which u saw in morning Morning breakfast made by jagadh who looked after us was not so great or tasty nor was dere much variety but we were still taken care by jagadh he was a very hospitable person. Location of the house is way out in the lane its difficult to find the house and not a good one . We planned to live in kandy for 3 days but after our 2 days in this hotel we change our plans n checked out 3rd day. Owners were nice n friendly but this place wa way over priced !!!! I wouldnt recommend it for vacations. It was out of the way so u cant go out for a quivk walk and this weird noise kept coming of something at night I dunu if theres a temple close by or what was that noise all abt .

The view at the top of the hous, where breakfast is served is really great, as well as the breakfast itself. Rooms are clean and nice decorated.
There is no airco in the room, and be aware of the fact that it is a 20min ride into Kandy

Excellent roof top terasse with a great view, about 20min by TukTuk from Kandy, very nice and helpful staff, very nice and clean rooms, family run business, the owner is also building a lodge in the Knuckles Range and can help you to organize treckings and stays there. Good food. The best hotel/guesthouse we have seen in Sri Lanka.

On our arrival we were invited up for a welcome freshly squeezed pawpaw juice and toast and a huge pot of tea. Heaven. The roof verandah restaurant was comfortable and attractive with wonderful service, beautiful food and great views. Our bedroom was spotless and so pretty and very comfortable. Palitha our host was hospitable and a great ambassador for Sri Lanka. He went out of his way to make sure we were safe and in good hands - on our ongoing journey he arranged a tuktuk to pick us up from the Ella railway station to deliver us to our hotel. This was such a relief as we arrived at night and were tired after a big day. Of all the places we stayed in Sri Lanka Villa Sandalwood stood out as the best.

The ambiance on the dinning area...rooms design, family friendly!
Staff has still a bit to learn about customer service...switching the light off at 9pm it is like pushing you out of the restaurant...setting the table properly with glasses and water would also help:-)
