Victorian House Hotel

My wife and I, although getting on in age, backpack our luggage so we appreciate the location of Victorian House.

I thought the location was ideal -right in the middle of everything, particularly the Glasgow School of Art- we didn't need to take a taxi for the whole trip.

The location is excellent, very central and easy to get to and from (though due to the hill up to the hotel I would advise a cab from the station - this cost us about £3.

They can arrange private hire taxis to the airport, something we've used several times.

5 minutes walk to subway and #20 + 62 buses and maybe a little longer to the restaurant zone.

Very clean, small TV, adequate sized bathroom, comfortable double bed, nice hardwood floor, no view but quiet.

No air con in the rooms which is to be expected, on-suite bathrooms were on the small side but perfectly adequate.

On closer inspection, my bed sheet appeared to have blood splattering, my towels were filthy and the main lightbulb to the room had gone.

We were given an enormous room with a double and a single bed and chairs and table.

We were expecting a cramped room and here we are in a suite that easily could have fit 2 queen beds with room to spare.

The breakfasts are truly excellent - buffet-style for cereal, fruit, juice, jams, toast, coffee/tea etc but you order a cooked breakfast from the Chef.

Even when we did try to eat breakfast, half the food that they were advertising on a large sign was not there, because it had not been shipped that day.

Because we had such a generous breakfast, at times we'd just nibble on a snack for lunch.

Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful with the eggs cooked to order, with a choice of breads, juices and hot beverages and served in an attractive stone floored dining area.

Which is a VERY small amount of time for everyone to eat, creating the breakfast room to be loud, like a cafeteria.

The reception staff were efficient and friendly but, be warned, there is no elevator.

We only had breakfast on one day and it was excellent, self service but the staff were perfectly friendly and we clearly had the friendly chef too as he seemed keen to tease us for being blatantly english.

Yes parking is a bit of a nightmare but I didnt have any problems locating a space.

The street is one way and parking is kinda restricted.

In fairness this is a nice little hotel but I do hope that improvements in regards to the housekeeping side of things can be made soon.

Our twin room was huge, clean and centrally heated.

The dining room was big, bright and very clean and the chef and staff friendly and helpful.

I was very pleased with the room, it was a twin spacious room that was clean and well presented.

The bathroom was small but nice and clean, the shower excellent.

Bright, clean rooms with plenty of drawers.
