Staff very helpful in giving info on flights because Pisa airport was closed for a we were there and price was also quite fair for good located hotel.
Overall a good base for a city break, the hotel is in an excellent position.

The Hotel Universo has pretty neat, modern guest rooms - great bathrooms, but horrible (surly) staff and little to no airconditioning.
The staff was efficient, my room as well as the public rooms were very comfortable.
Our main complaint was that we woke up with bug bites all over from what we think were mites in the bed.
Our friends were given a fairly decent room (clean and nice bathroom).
On our way back to the Pisa airport a week later, we stopped for lunch at the restaurant attached to the Hotel Universo which is called Ristorante Del Teatro as the food there is fantastic.

The staff friendly, hot water and given excellent restaurant suggestions.

The management seems to have lost interest, although the younger members of staff at reception did their best to resolve our problems.
Reception staff were not very helpful with even the simplest of requests.
The breakfast staff were even more unhelpful than the reception staff, if you could find someone that is.
We are experienced European travelers and would not rate this hotel highly in terms of staff service as well.
The hotels position was perfect, special mention must be made of Laura went the extra mile and all staff were very helpful.

Bathrooms are clean but give testimony to the passage of time as plumbing has been added and subtracted, sometimes more successfully than other times.
She refused to acknowledge that she gave us a dirty room by mistake and wouldn't give us a clean room.
As we were very tired, we sat in the hallway for half an hour while 3 maids scurried to clean the room.
