For the price, we were not expecting a Resort, but at least a clean, just-to-rest, take-a-shower hotel.
And the price was not worth the stay (we could have stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Trader hotel down the street).
The location cannot be beat- beachfront across A1A, with service on the Trolley, the 40 bus line that goes to the Publix, and the 11 bus that goes to Las Olas.
I chose Tropic Cay because of the price and the location.
Did I mention that the location and price were great?
The location was the best directly across the street from the beach.
Based on the location of the pool, it gets alot of sunshine most of the day, this is great for laying around and reading.
Filthy floors, filthy walls horible beds, broken windows, hallways soaking wet and bedroom linens laying in the water on the corridor floors and then to cap it all off, awoke in the morning to find a bed full of small bugs.
We had bed bugs, cockroaches on the floor and walls, the bathroom was not clean.
Floors were filthy, bed bugs, street creeps passed out 20 feet from bar; loud patrons at bar, dirty windows.
Our rooms airconditiong was blowing warm air and we had to sleep with the bathroom window open.
There is a small pass thru closet leading to the bathroom with rods on both sides- it could be a decent dressing room if there were a curtain across it.
Right on the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants.
It was right across from the beach (A1A) a short walk would have brought you to restaurants, shops and etc.
BeachPlace, for chain restaurants and clubs.
VERY '50s type architecture and decor, with a funky little tiki bar out by the pool that was a great place to wind down from an active day.
The beach is right across the street, there's a pool bar, and it's a five minute walk to all the bars, shopping, reataurants.
This is not a fancy hotel but it was clean and the staff very helpful.
The people at the front desk are really nice.
The staff really went out of their way for us, and would certainly stay here again.
Perhaps the most shocking occurrence was when we informed the staff of our broken air-conditioner, and they told us that they would fix it 'after we left'.
The pool was okay- the water was clear, although it could use vacuuming.
Definite perk to this place is that the parking is free and there is plenty of it and you have access to three different hotel pools.
The pool was clean although we could not use it for a few day, the thermostat was broken and it kept heating non-stop.
It took us a few hours to do the job and then we could enjoy a clean room for the rest of the stay.
The rooms are a little worn but clean and functional.

The location can't be beat -- just across the street from the water, and within walking distance of a large number of restaurants. My room looked out on the water--it was a bit bright in the morning, but very pretty. This is not a posh resort - you get what you pay for - but the front desk people are very friendly and helpful, and more personable than some big-name resort. Terrific location, willing and helpful staff.
