Editorial review:

A beautiful historic property which was recently renovated, this is where you want to stay is you like relaxing with an authentic afternoon tea. The lobby areas are more than elegant and the sleeping rooms continue the theme of rich, elegant and understated. This property has been the setting for both novels and notable historic events. So try this hotel if you really want to feel like you have been in Ireland throughout the ages.

The world famous Shelbourne Hotel is a timeless landmark in the heart of Dublin. Located only 9km from Dublin Airport, The Shelbourne overlooks the magnificent St. Stephen's Green, and is just seconds from the city's sights and shops, commerce and culture.

But the connection to Ireland's capital runs far deeper than location. Founded in 1824, The Shelbourne,a Renaissance Hotel is a place where history has been made - the Irish Constitution was drafted, literary masterpieces were penned and society was shaped.

Today, as part of the worldwide Renaissance brand, the hotel has been dramatically restored to its full original splendour.

Each of the 265 bedrooms are unique, but they all share a sense of charm, style and above all quality...100% Egyptian cotton bedding by Rivolta Carmignani, elegant marble bathrooms with luxury amenities, flat-screen televisions, high speed internet access and climate control.

The Shelbourne's 19 suites are named after famous guests to have stayed at the hotel, such as Princess Grace, John F. Kennedy, Michael Collins and Eamonn De Valera.

At the very heart of Dublin's very best times for almost 200 years, The Shelbourne continues to be the city's favourite hotel for fine food and drinks in an incomparable environment for generations of Dubliners.

The Shelbourne offers a superb choice of dining venues; The Saddle Room, a modern steak and seafood restaurant, The Lord Mayor's Lounge which serves Dublin's only true afternoon tea, the renowned Horseshoe Bar and No. 27 Bar & Lounge, the place to see and be seen in Dublin!

The oldest hotel in Dublin is pure luxury. Room magnificent and service and friendliness of staff excellent. Food was top quality wonderfully presented and you feel really pampered throughout your stay. We had a great time

Fantastic location and there is a really good atmosphere in the hotel, between the main lobby, bar and tea rooms. Beds were really comfortable too !

Breakfast was not included in the price so it was fairly expensive to stay there.

Old, quaint - has an interesting history and I love St. Stephens Green right across the street from the hotel. The concierge was very helpful if you could find him. He was almost never available by phone or at the desk. I finally booked my weekend to the Aran Islands on my own. I was provided with a beautiful upgrade. Loved the cookies or brownies provided everyday at the information desk and fresh water with lemon. Never really used the bars or restaurant while there - it just did not have a welcoming feel - I was an alone traveler.

My biggest complaint was the internet: e9 per hour and you had to use it all within that hour -- not 10 minutes here 10 minutes there. Therefore, I was without connection for 8 days. It is against my principle to pay $15 an hour to check emails. I told the gentleman that for staying there 8 nights you think the hotel would absorb the cost - at least for one hour of use. I could not even check my airline reservations. Also, I did not like the fact that the concierge was almost never available - very frustrating! No one at the desk had change for a 50 note so I went to bar to get a beer so I could have change and he would not let me remove the beer from the bar. The bar was very crowded at the time. Also, the doorman was almost always away when I needed his services. The internet was my biggest concern. It took two days to get the complimentary coffee/tea service in the room - hot kettle. And I would have preferred to dry my hair in the bathroom but that was minor.

      Close to City Center

Rooms are outdated. View was horible facing a wall. Reservation could not be found so e had to wait a long time at the reception because they could not find the correspondance with When we eventually got our room, it was small, old and run down furniture (Grannie flat type of furniture) and the queen bed was more like a baby bed.

I seriously could not fault the hotel facilities and staff.

      No complaints whatsoever.

We mentioned to the staff at the reception that it was our engagement celebration, so they kindly offered to upgrade us to a premium room. When we checked that room, the bathroom was not finished being cleaned, so they was so sorry and they upgraded us to a huge suite to apologies. It was like something you dream of happening, it only ever happens in movies, but it made our celebrations spectacular!!!

Beautiful beds and bed linen. Comfortable & spacious bedrooms. Attentive staff who are not 'over the top' and always deliver on their commitments (eg alarm calls - it doesn't always happen at many other hotels!)

My only concern is the curious smell in the reception area. I'm not sure what it is (automatic air freshener?) but it smells as if someone has been sick - but after eating something sweet. I can always smell it whenever I stay.

Staff were lovely. It was my mum's birthday and a really nice touch was that a gorgeous plate of truffles arrived at our room with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate across the plate! Superb fish and chips in the bar too which actually was very good value.

      Lovely staff, very beautiful building.

There was no complimentary water or tea/coffee making facilities in the room which was very annoying. We have to queue to get into the restaurant for breakfast - first time I've ever had to queue in a hotel for breakfast and did not expect this from a 5 * hotel.

Breakfast at €29(orange juice and cereal) for a 12 yr old is way too pricey!
