  On arrival you are met by pleasant staff and pass a majestic fountain with staues of african animals and after that you enter the reception area, a large dome, with impressive architecture and flower displays. The room was very comfortable and large with a great turndown service, professionally done. The views from the room were exceptional, looking down over the pool and restaurant with a great vista overlooking sun city and lakes. The staff are very friendly and efficient.

  There are no coffee making facilities in the room but the room service coffee and tea is reasonably priced. Do take advantage of the free shuttle service provided by the palace to get around Sun City. I found that the staff would do anything for us and treating them with courtesy and respect paid dividends.

  Although the scenery and pools surrounding the hotel are dramatic, and the breakfast is good, we experienced significant problems during our stay and would be very reluctant to go back.

  First, the furnishings at the hotel have lost their luster, the rugs are faded, the bed covers and drapes are old. Second, we requested a family room and were placed right at the back of the property with no view, a ten-minute walk to and from the lobby, noisy crickets which kept us awake all night, and an unsafe feeling in a remote location. Third, there were infrastructure problems like the leaky shower, the costly Internet service which took our money but failed to send our e-mails, and the broken TV which could not be resolved by the hotel staff. This place should be removed from the Leading hotels of the world, unless it leads in exploiting naive tourists by taking their money and giving them sub-standard service in return.

  As I smiled and tried to get past him, he threateningly blocked himself against the door and explained (albeit politely) that he could use a little help for new shoes and the bus fare home.

  The rooms were dull and dark, and needed a lot of cheering up. The most surprising incident during this stay happened in the public restroom (men's)off from the main lobby. Upon entering, I noticed a hotel staff standing there (not sure if he was the bathroom attendent or just a staff who wasn't supposed to be there). I quickly made my way out and back to my room.

  One lovely section remains, other than the thrill of the wave pool if you can still call that a thrill, and this is the walks you can have in the grounds, all of which turn out to be quite pleasant in general. For a short distance away from J'burg, you can enjoy a professional game drive with some good guides and with a nice halfway house right in the middle of the game park.

  It's expensive and very badly serviced for the class of hotel it pretends to be. The above are the only two memorable moments in the time we spent at the Palace, and that's a shame, considering the vision with which it was originally designed and built.

  It has an impressive entrance, water, statues of leaping animals, marble, that kind of thing. My room was good, in a modern version of an African style. I found the service throughout at reception, restaurant and breakfast to be good and attentive. A short walk, or Sun City bus drive gets you to the vast entertainment centre, where just about anything is available, bowling, restaurants, fast food, theatres, and plenty to keep the kids happy. Staying at this hotel will get you free entrance to the amazing artificial swimming pool, with artificial beach and wave making machine.

  We had to wait quite a while for the check in who were efficient but not overly friendly. The entertainment centre was fun if the casino was a bit tacky but some of the food places there were nice and more reasonably priced. Hotel security was good, and shops were ok but expensive again!

  The food was average and the service below standard for a leading hotel of the world member.

  Luckily, we were upgraded and had a really spacious room. The room was clean and tidy and twice during our stay, the bed was covered with the rose petals. Although they did forget to leave some soap and wash on two occassions. When it was opened, there was a pile of dirty clothes from another persons room attached to the hanger with my clean jeans.

  When we had room service the meals were very poor, not at all of suitable quality for a 5 star hotel. On a number of occassions we used the laundry service, this was extremely badly organised and we had to phone and request our clothes when they hadn't returned on the day they stated.

  Our room was beautiful, elegantly furnished in traditional furniture. The room was more like a suite with a large lounge and two chairs, coffee table, sideboard, TV, with a small balcony overlooking the running brook ,which flowed throughout the resort. The king size bed was enormous with gorgeous pillows; the bathroom was just delightful with a touch of African décor. I truly loved my room, and I have stayed in numerous five star hotels around the world. This room had to be one of my favourites, it made me feel special. The bed turn back service was also graciously done, with rose petals spread elegantly on the bed and little flower knots tied into the dressing gowns laid out gracefully on the bed. Little things or services in a hotel mean a lot to me. The breakfast was fabulous, and I now rate it, the second best in the world.

  The service we experienced throughout South Africa was second to none and the Palace was no exception. We tried the breakfast which was outstanding, there just isn't enough time to try the huge array of dishes on offer.

  3 phone calls, 3 face to face requests, 1. 5 hours, losing my temper and requesting to check out just to get the beds separated). On the other hand I must add that the breakfast is absolutely incredible - not to be missed, even if you're staying at another hotel.

  Everywhere I went in South Africa the service was much better than Europe - except this hotel, where the service was atrocious. The staff are polite, but they just don't respond to the most simple of requests! Even discounting the above this hotel is really overpriced, and a 10 minute shuttle bus ride away from the action of Sun City. You can get better rooms for less money in the other hotels I heard.
