Editorial review:

Incredible landmark Menger Hotel is across the street from the Alamo and is known for having ghosts haunting some of the rooms. The public spaces are classy, elegant, and charming, as is the incredible bar where Teddy Roosevelt used to go. The service and food are mediocre, though.

Verified Reviews:

  • Just across the road to the river walk - Complementary coffee at breakfast time - Air conditioner was loud, but functional
  • Fitness room was also extremely limited - Room was big and comfy - Bathrooms were very clean
  • Parking is $19 a day - Beds were extremely hard - Location is perfect
  • Free high speed internet - Rooms are decent - Breakfast in the courtyard is reasonable and delicious
  • Pool is chilly - Would definitely stay again - There is a hot tub - Location couldn't be better next to the alamo

Individual guest reviews

  • I loved the convient location, nice older hotel and the building itself is lovely. The lobby is magnificant and the front desk service prompt, the balcony rooms overlooking the pool are very large rooms. The bar is fabulous, breakfast is superb.

The staff were very rude and the entry into the bathroom had an unusual high step up that was not noticable.

  • The location was great, our room in the oldest section of the hotel faced the garden was lovely and the staff at The Menger was verry attentive. Beds were comfy and clean, ambiance at the bar was really unique and pleasant, the restaurant inside was very nice as well.

Just the essence of old San Antonio, early morning showers and meals not worth the price. Pool not heated.

  • Relative luxury of all areas, reasonable cost and i loved seeing the building. The lobby is fantastic and the staff is gracious and helpful. No shower gel available, the bar is amazing and the outside gardens are beautiful, the restaurant has a pretty good version of a vegetarian Eggs Benedict.

I anticipated an unpleasant stay and not worth the money. Poor service and tiny bathroom. The bathtub looked dirty.

  • Location was very nice, the hotel itsself was absolutely beautiful and free wifi in the lobby and free internet in the room was a plus. Most staff were courteous, eager and the accommodation were more than comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent, fresh made waffles and omelets.

Stuck to the inside of the shower area, high cost of valet parking and bathroom needs to be updated.

  • Excellent location downtown near shops, majestic Theatre and just across the street from the Riverwalk. Old beautiful historic hotel and nice House. Lovely lobby and open areas, the staff is courteous and efficient, the rooms are decent and include free high speed internet.

The place was not clean and the standard of service was rather poor too. The bed was very uncomfortable, elevator was ancient, creaky and sort of scary.
