  From parking the car, to check-in, to the conference facilities, to the food, to the Poisiden Spa, to the pool, to the special details and arrangements for meals and presentations. The rooms were very unique and not for the shy at heart or body with doors and glass in every direction.

  But the designer is a genius - it is very classy and the soaking tub and bathroom were perfect. Service was top-notch!

  The service at the Mansion was extremely personal. The front desk, concierge, and transportation people were always asking if they could help, how our stay was going, etc. A town car takes you anywhere you want to go within the historic district as a complimentary service. A waitress comes by the pool every so often to see if you'd like a cocktail.

  We stayed at the Hilton Desoto for the first night of our trip and were terribly disappointed (rooms were old, smelly, and the walls were paper thin).

  The location is ok, very near the park so that was nice but the surrounding neighborhoods could be sketchy to some people- but I wouldnt let that stop you from staying here! I LOVED the decor, the room was the BEST!

• In addition, the mini fridge and the TV remote were both broken, which the hotel also refused to fix.

  I thought the black and white photographs of the fountain in Forsyth Park on the ceiling of the elevator were an inspired choice. The location on the Park is fantastic and would only have been better if more flowers had been in bloom and if the run-down Forsyth Fort wasn’t directly in front of the hotel. Apparently there are plans to revamp this – Kessler (the hotel owner) is planning on building a café in the old Fort – but none of the employees could say when this was going to get underway. The room we had was a nice room (Bohemian) – the bed was large and very soft with an ornate headboard.

  The maid service was just not up to par, I’m sad to say. While the reservations we skewed toward restaurants that could be booked through the Open Table website, I didn’t feel that they steered us toward bad choices.

  If you are looking for a little more old school "Waldorf" type of location, this may not be for you. However, the service is outstanding and all the staff were very pleasent and helpful. The tub was a huge garden tub that you could really relax in after a day of walking around (fills up fast and lots of hot water but bring your own bubble bath! Everything we ordered from room service was excellent and once again the staff was great.

  But that is because it is not a "stuffy, reserved" 5 star hotel.

  The rooms are large, comfortable and clean but it is not historic or quaint, if you're looking for that, look elsewhere. Very clean room, bed was comfortable (pillows too soft for me). 0 and got somebody, there were several burnt out light bulbs in our room and the toilet paper holders weren't fastened properly to the walls and kept almost falling off. When we were there a big fence covered the park and we couldn't see it anyway because of a tree directly in front of our window.

  Negatives: I wouldn't rate this place 5 star because of little details like the room phone had no information on it so we had no idea how to contact the front desk, room service, etc. Also, the hotel location is close to the seedier side of town and a little far away from the main historic locations but definitely within walking distance if you don't mind walking.

  We went out to dinner and one of the valets drove us to and from the restaurant - a wonderful touch; room service was always prompt; the staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. While there, our continually running toilet did overflow. But the staff was super-responsive and extremely apologetic. The gym is nice enough, but the spa is really just okay. Note that the mini-bar is wired so that if you even touch the oreos, it will show up on your bill as having been eaten. In sum, a nice hotel, but absolutely not 4/5- star.

• The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, although I will say that I had to check back in due to weather delays and I felt that I was putting them out. They were nice enough to give me back my old room but they did misplace my luggage for a couple of hours as they put it in the room they quoted me over the phone and nobody seemed to know where that was. I was given a fantastic king room on the third floor (319). The bellman brought my luggage up immediately and gave me a nice tour of the room and some lunch suggestions.

  The mini bar is touch sensitive so be careful when getting the robe and slippers out of the closet as you may set it off and get charged by mistake.
