• The hotel was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. Great location, 5 minute walk from Union Station. Great deal on the price of accommodation as well.

  I chose this hotel because we were traveling with a baby and wanted something close to Union Station (thank heavens, since we were 3+hours delayed on Amtrak, and arrived exhausted). It was great to be a couple of blocks from Union Station. The room was very nice - great bed, and lovely linens. The restaurant next door is owned by the same owners as Vidalia (a superb restaurant), and this restaurant is also terrific.

  The hotel is situated in the Capitol Hill district of DC and is only a block away from Union Station and its metro stop. The bathroom was quite large and had a separate shower cubicle and a tub. In addition there is a fire station one block away and sirens could be heard throughout the night. The hotel has a very good bistro restaurant - Bistro Bis - serving modern French cuisine.

  My room faced the rear of the hotel where there is a car park and more importantly the trash cans for both the hotel and surrouding buildings. In addition the hotel did not serve coffee in the lobby - but there is a Starbucks one block away. On speaking to others staying in the hotel virtually all the rooms - both those facing the rear and those facing the front - were very noisy.

  Staff was courteous and helpful, and the room was nicely decorated and comfortable. In the lobby was the aroma of french food, which was much to my liking. I used the steam room, which was nice at the end of the day, and though small, it was sufficient. Each room had a large TV, interesting magazines, and a DVD player. There was also free high-speed internet access, which made it easier to work in one's room. The turndown service from housekeeping was a nice added touch, as was complimentary shoeshine, and two newspapers at your door in the morning. The bathrooms are marble, with a separate shower stall and separate bathtub. The hotel is very close to Union Station, for easy accessibility to the Metro.

  Nice rooms, very nice bed/linens.

  Also surprized by the "business center" which is a tiny room by the reception with two computers in it.

  Location (1 block from gorgeous Union station) is a plus for those cramming in multiple site-seeing locations and not wanting to cab. This is NOT the location for those looking to walk out of their rooms and explore a fun neighbourhood. Hotel and rooms- clean, very nice, nice bathrooms, great beds and cocktail reception is a good touch.

  As per the previous poster I was also surprised by the maid. The front desk sheepishly suggested the pickup was on Thurs/Friday - I was there Mon/Tues so I took it.

  Rarely can you find a bellman to hail a taxi in the rain or assist with luggage.

  Don't bother with this converted apartment building. The Kimpton brand suffers greatly here from an under trained, apathetic staff manning a poorly altered structure. Forget sleeping when you can hear the phone conversations and/or TV sets from three different rooms. The concierge confirmed a dinner reservation for us, only to arrive at the restaurant with no record of our name and no table available for two hours. Maid staff routinely ignored the Privacy sign and walked in at 9AM as she was knocking; once when i was coming out of the shower - her scar to bear.

• It is a little over a block from Union Station and the walk to the Capitol/Mall was quite lovely in the autumn weather. The hotel has early check-in, extremely helpful staff, and the most comfortable king-sized bed with feather pillows. The room was very clean with a trendy design and I really did like the separate shower.

• When we arrived the rooms we had booked were not available and the girl on reception was very dismissive about our complaint , but the other member of staff,"Marcus Aurelius" was extremely empathic, kind and helpful and eventually our room problem was solved. The rooms were very very pleasnt and comfortable. The hotel location was excellent, within walking distance of the Capitol and the Mall (for museums, galleries) and only 5min walk to metro station.
