To me, paying a lot of money for a hotel with no bar, (well, my definition of a bar) no restaurant, no leisure centre and a room that overlooked an apartment so close we could have shaken hands with the resident there, just isn't good value!
Additionally this hotel is an excellent value for your money and the building is a beautiful old house.
If you don't fancy walking, the tram stops literally on the doorstep of the hotel and tram tickets were excellent value, especially the Sunday Saver which allowed unlimited travel in any zone for $2.
So emailed hotel with my query and the reply email had the same generic room/price information.

The location could not have been better for the Aussie Open, close enough to Melbourne Park that you could walk there in 20 minutes through the Botanical Garden nearby.
Good location close to the Botanic gardens.
We did have problems finding the hotel, I had already been warned on Trip Advisor about the two Park roads(one is street and one road) but the taxi driver still insisted on taking us to the wrong one!
The tram literally stops at the doorstep of the hotel and if you choose to ride a cab, you can be in the city in less than 10 mins.

That's certainly true - if you like an 'open' feeling room, you wouldnt like the rooms with a small area for the bed and armchair then a step down to the spacious wooden floored bathroom.

Some good restaurants are just around the corner (although we found our visit to the Botanical Restaurant overpriced and underwhelming).
There was a small shopping area beside these restaurants which had drycleaning service, pharmacy, fruit & vegetable shop.
Breakfasts in the front lounge were a treat.
It’s near a good fruit shop, wine shop, a famous restaurant, Cabash, and several cafes.

When we stayed at The Hatton, there were 3 staff taking turns at the reception.
I wouldn't recommend the hotel to people who have difficulty climbing stairs as the hotel has 3 levels and no elevators.
We even managed to get free parking, although spaces are limited.
There did not appear to be a lift, so anyone with movement difficulties may want to check this point with the Hatton Hotel before making a booking.
Next they have FREE wireless internet which was nice figuring I was paying $25USD a day at the Park Hyatt to keep track of work back home.
There is wireless internet; and a table with magazines but no area to just lounge.
In addition the staff is very friendly and the bathrooms are very clean and simple.
Very nice hotel clean rooms and the staff really friendly.
Our room was spacious, bright, and clean (although they need to dust a little better under the dresser).
Still, the rooms were bright and airy, and I thought clean.
Comfy rooms and fresh expresso coffee / tea.
