This would probably have had less impact if the food had been something special but it was not and certainly not what we were expecting from a 5 star hotel at a price of £35 per head.
We think this hotel would be great for a special function (wedding etc) - but stay up the road in one of the cheaper hotels for B & B - it will be better value.
Now we had to pay a little extra for the sea view as you would expect and old world charm of the best of seaside hotels.
Most of the public areas are smart and would rate The Grand higher that the "luxury" 5 star hotels in the big cities.
The location next to the sparkling blue sea and a very relaxing experience in beautiful decor - a real pleasure.
Perfect location, good value and all the staff was so friendly.

If you are expecting mini bars, flat screen TVs, DVD players, power showers and cutting edge decor don't set foot in this place!
We arrive on foot with rucksacks and go out every day in hiking boots and shorts, but we are greeted just as courteously as the people pulling up in Ferraris.
We were upgraded to a big Junior Suite with sweeping seaviews from our bay windows, a big comfortable bed and massive bathroom with lots of dinky Molton Products to play with!
Our executive room was large, with handsome windows, and well lit, though the bed could have been bigger.
The room was spacious, with a King-size bed (With canopy), an armchair, sofa-bed, chest of drawers, writing table and chair, rather small TV housed in a unit and a reasonably large wardrobe.
Courteous and friendly staff, super bed room, we then relaxed in the bar.
It features beautiful public rooms, spacious guestrooms (although the bathroom was small, at least in #407), a well maintained health club, an outstanding restaurant (Mirabelle) and all this facing the sea close to the marvelous Beachy Head.
We ate in both restaurants, the Mirabelle was nice, but not a vast choice (service though was exceptional), and the Garden restaurant was splendid.
Barman in the bar is professional and breakfast is great All in all.
Rooms were clean, the cocktail bar was great and the breakfast was hugely improved from previous visits.
This included: chocolates, flowers and Champagne in our room, one nights stay, dinner in the Mirrebelle Restaurant with a 6 course tasting menu including wine matched with each course, and breakfast.
Add to this mayhem the fact that in the Garden restaurant the same dinner menu is used on two successive evenings, and the cooked breakfast is self-service, and you might be forgiven for wondering how the Grand can justify their high charges.
From Concierge to room-service, all the staff appear well-trained and customer focused.
Overall a brilliant hotel, excellent-staff very friendly and i liked having room service.
The reception area very impressive, good value and the service they gave was excellent.
The room (and indeed the hotel) is old-fashioned with excellent service from all the staff encountered.
On the plus side the gym and indoor pool were great.
Car parking difficult, a family with a baby had to park across the sea front road, not easy when you have to load up lots of baby bits and pieces.
But the gym and the pool were virtually empty!
Rooms were clean and adequate to our needs.
The room was very well maintained and clean.
The room itself (deluxe room) was fairly large and very clean.
