Overview

Situated on the northwestern tip of Langkawi Island, The Datai is set in an ancient Malaysian tropical rainforest and between the Cincang Mountain Range, with its own private white sandy beach facing the calm Andaman Sea.

The Datai is one of the best Malaysia resort experiences in Langkawi. Footpaths through the jungle connect this resort, its free-standing private villas and two swimming pools.

This luxurious resort is an excellent retreat for families or honeymooners. On the premises you’ll find a private white sandy beach, a well-equipped health club and full-service spa, two outdoor pools, the 18-hole Datai Bay Golf Course, two tennis courts, library, gift shop, a business center with internet access.

The property includes 54 deluxe rooms, 40 villas and 16 suites that feature five-star amenities as standard. All guestrooms and villas are well-appointed and fully-furnished with spacious bedrooms, living areas with balcony, private verandahs and views of the natural tropical landscape.

There are four main restaurants at the resort, serving Thai, Malaysian, Indian and Western cuisines and alfresco dining by the sea at the Beach Club.

The Pavilion serves authentic Thai cuisine for dinner in the setting overlooking the sea and forest.

The Dining Room is an all-day dining venue offering western and local dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If breakfast was included with your room you can ask it to be delivered.

For a more casual dining by the sea, the Beach Club presents Western cuisine and barbeque evening once a week.

The Gulai House offers traditional Malaysian curries and Indian specialties for dinner, where guest can dine in traditional style by sitting on the floor or at normal dining tables. Refreshing cocktails and snacks are on offer at the Lobby Lounge. This venue is reserved for guests above the age of 12 years, after 8pm daily.

The highest man made waterfall in Malaysia, Langkawi falls, is about 6km from the hotel. Telaga Tujoh Waterfalls, also known as 7 Wells Waterfalls is about 25km from the hotel.

Pantai Kok and Burau Bay are located along the western coastline of Langkawi, about 19km from the Datai, while Pantai Cenang is about 40km away.

Getting there

The Datai is a 30 minute drive from the Langkawi International Airport, which is about 20km west of Pulau Langkawi's main town, Kuah. Domestic flights are scheduled daily between Kuala Lumpur and Penang, while international flights come in from Changi Airport in Singapore and London (twice a week).

Travelling time to Langkawi can vary from 30 minutes to eight hours by air, and 45 minutes to three hours by sea, depending on point of embarkation.

Getting around

Departure points for visitors who opt to travel by boat or ferry to Langkawi are from Kuala Perlis, Kuala Kedah or Georgetown on Penang Island. Visitors from Thailand depart from Satun.

The Langkawi Cable Car station is located at the Oriental Village, Buru Bay around a 20 minute drive from the Datai and offers spectacular views of Langkawi and the surrounding rainforest. It is open daily from 10am to 7pm and requires the fee for a return trip.

Location and friendly staff, beautiful beach, the Datai surpasses service standards to make your stay an unforgettable one. The bathroom is sumptuous and there is even an outdoor shower and bathing, food is perfect, the spa is wonderful and you must try the Datai Indulgence.

Location less the bugs, a private beach and by far the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff is very welcoming and always smiling, the bathrooms again are very spacious and just perfect for honeymooners. Restaurants provide excellent cuisine and mandara Spa is pure decadence.

Beautiful location, great forest and the setting in the rainforest and the beach as well. Perfect service, lovely nibbles too and huge comfy bed. The little touches of cool towels, long breakfast times and the spa at the Datai is magnificent.

The restaurants and beach/poolside area were excellent, this place was absolutely superb. The staff were amazing, good gym, the hot tub/cold tub was too hot and too cold for us, lunch here was informal, great sandwiches and salads. The facilities were fantastic.
