During my recent business trip to Matsumoto, my director chose Hotel Tamanoyu for our stay, and I must say, it was a great choice. One of the highlights of this hotel is the public bath/onsen services. The indoor mineral hot springs provided a relaxing and rejuvenating experience after a long day of work. The yukata provided added to the authentic and traditional feel of the onsen, making it a truly unique and memorable experience.
Two very strong negatives struck me during my stay.

I appreciated particularly good and comfy location of this hotel.
I was offered a room with lovely views of two different mountain ranges. Location: the hotel was close to bus stop right across the road as well as Asama Onsen. A few times I ate at Mangetsuya, located within easy walking distance of the venue...

I had an amazing stay at this luxurious hotel! From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel incredibly welcome and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. The rooms were spacious and quiet, allowing me to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring. But the highlight was definitely the food! The kaiseki dinner was of the highest quality and presentation, and the Japanese breakfast was a delightful way to start my day. I also loved the rooftop private onsen baths, where I could soak in the warm waters and enjoy the stunning views. The hotel also provided transportation to and from town, making it very convenient for me to explore the area. the ambiance, friendly staff, delicious food, and outstanding amenities made my stay here truly memorable.
I would highly recommend this place to my family and friends. Every aspect of my stay was exceptional, from the warm and attentive staff to the luxurious room and fantastic food.

We were greeted with warm towels, tea, and sweets upon arrival, making us feel instantly welcome. The traditional Japanese room was clean, comfortable, and exuded a peaceful atmosphere. The private onsen baths were a highlight, offering a serene and rejuvenating experience. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was personalized and enjoyable, even assisting with translation and providing helpful guidance. The hotel's attention to detail, from the daily sweets and green tea in our room to the excellent customer service, made this a truly memorable and delightful ryokan experience. highly recommended!

The guestroom at Hotel Tamanoyu was simply amazing! The tatami flooring area with two twin beds and a futon mattress made me feel like I was truly experiencing traditional Japanese culture. I loved how cozy and comfortable the room was, it was the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring Matsumoto.
Although the room was fantastic, I personally didn't enjoy the seating area in some units. It just didn't appeal to my taste, but I understand that others might find it enjoyable.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and spoke English. The hotel facilities were well-maintained and clean. The location of the hotel was away from the train station but close to tourist attractions. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options.
Nothing all good.

Our stay during Thanksgiving was amazing! The view from our room was stunning, we enjoyed waking up to the mountains every morning. The staff were superb, always eager to assist us. They left little Japanese sweets for us every day and green tea in the room, which was a lovely touch. This hospitality really made our experience more personal. The private baths were incredibly tranquil and relaxing after a day of exploring. We also loved the lounging clothing provided, which gave a traditional Japanese feel.
That the hotel was located a bit far from the centre of town, making it a bit of a journey to get to. There were limited dining options in the area, with only one convenience store nearby.

Located in a peaceful area, this charming hotel is an ideal spot to unwind after a long day exploring. Although some distance from the town center, a convenient shuttle service is offered. Our traditional Japanese room was spacious and comfortable with a massage chair, plus we had a private onsen with scenic mountain views. The staff were cheerful, assisting with luggage and offering tea on arrival. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, including freshly made soba, in a private dining area. The spa facilities were excellent, with both public and bookable private onsens available.
Not all staff members were able to speak fluent English, but they tried their best to communicate and were friendly and helpful.

We had a fantastic time over New Year! The traditional decor was amazing and the staff were friendly and spoke good English. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor baths which were perfect for couples and families. Not to mention the quality of the dinner which included yummy Japanese preserved dishes, rice and more. We also loved the convenience store conveniently located outside the hotel.
The location was not convenient as getting around required taking a taxi everywhere. However, this did not stop us from enjoying our stay and we were able to explore the secluded area where the hotel was located.
