  Within easy walking distance of friends visited, the location was excellent right in the centre of town and the hotel had recently been renovated. Breakfast was buffet style and nice, i found all the staff very helpful and friendly. Bed was very comfortable, the cleaner made teddy a sleeping bag out of towels and the food was very good value.

  Taxis waiting outside were a continual disturbance, my car got vandilised in the car park overnight as its not secure and very noisey on a Friday night as room was right on the high street. Mattress was bit too hard for my liking, the starter meal I had the night before for dinner was also very expensive - shame because was tasty and manager was very pompous and aloof.

  Ideal location for my purpose and the hotel is well run. The Swan has easy access to Jane Austen's house by car and staff are all friendly. Nice white bed linen and bar open late for residents.

  The town is small and needs some decoration - is not luxurious. Moreover the food is awful.

  Like its central location and then should be a really nice hotel. Have always found the staff very friendly, efficient receptionist relayed important message to me and the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. The heated towel rail in the ensuite could not be turned off, a good selection of traditional breakfast items also fruit.

  The building itself is old and alton is a small town.

  Good town-centre location and excellent quality. The atmosphere of the old building and cheap rates. The room was traditional in style and clean and tidy, i thought the staff were exceptionall helpful.

  Landings + lights not working in downstairs toilets were not that lovely anyway and breakfast was slow waited 45mins for toast.

  Extremely handy for the town and central location. The hotel is historic and the food is excellent 'in house. I liked its coaching inn type style and the staff are very helpful.

  Double bed seemed rather small, service very slow at breakfast so I missed eating a full english as I had to go to a meeting for 8am.

  The location very good and friendly welcome. Therefore not upmarket by the nature of the building and helpfull staff. The room was nice and pillows were very comfortable.

  The location was good and there was a pleasant atmosphere throughout. Staff were friendly and helpful, the price of accommodation was reasonable compared. The breakfast was brilliant, menu choice was excellent.

  Good location and friendly welcome. The staff very helpfull and they have a new receptionist was very helpful and efficient. The room was clean and breakfast was lovely.

  A nice restaurant on site and good value. Staff very friendly and helpful, comfortable room. Comfy sofas, food reasonable and big choice for the dinner.

  Noisy main street late at night, decoration dated.

  Location - ideal for exploring Alton and good value. Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room. Nice bar, breakfast excellent and reasonable choice of dinner menu.
