Nice comfortable bed. Superb location with marvelous sea views.

Poor breakfast. There was a fair choice of cereals etc but as we do not eat them we relied on cooked part which was sadly lacking in quantity. Consisted of 1 egg (small) 1 sausage 1 bacon half tomato half mushroom and dessert spoon of baked beans. If you asked for extra say an egg you find smaller rasher or less beans. Shower in room was pathetic.Broken light on mirror which left exposed halogen bulb. Mirror loose. Reported to desk but not resolved (shower did improve a bit for a couplke of days).Damp in room coming down wall along join with eaves. No clock. No way was this worth £215 per night.

lack of storage space, room not being cleaned until late in the afternoon, towel rail in bathroom not working, no mirror in bedroom to dry hair, crack in shower base, toilet seat was loose

Excellent staff, good location, good size bedroom, en suite spa bath

Car park was a bit small, but we always managed to get a space

Great location, brilliant staff, made welcome from the minute we turned up, had a great room and thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay

Staff were keen and friendly, and understanding - we were moved to a better room when the rain came through the ceiling! Location is great for Porthminster beach, the town and the station. Spa is a good idea; my wife said her massage was very good.

At the time we stayed the refurbishment appeared to be incomplete, and some aspects of the newly opened spa were faulty (E.G. no lights in the steam room). Hopefully management can finish the whole refurbishment job, throughout the hotel.

The hotel was undergoing refurbishment which was probably reflected in the reduced rate, and the lower price made for a fantastic price, had we not already made dining arrangements we would definately have used the saving's to eat in. The pool and view are superb.

The location was perfect. We travelled by train which brought us more or less to the doorstep. Gorgeous location and view.

    Bedroom felt a little tired.

The staff were very understanding and helpful and tried to change things as much as they could for our comfort. We were able to change rooms but still ended up on the second night overlooking the busy road junction. Both the restaurant and reception staff were excellent and very attentive. They responded to all our concerns with courtesy and kindness.

The car park has been demolished so the nearest car parking is 2 miles away and you have to be chauffered to the car park and back. The land next to the hotel is being built on so there is a building site just outside. Some of the hotel rooms overlook this site - which is noisy and the builders start work at 0800 in the morning. This is not ideal if staying for a quiet weekend. They also work on a Saturday.

It was convenient - we had a funeral to attend in St Ives

The public areas were tired and we assume they are in line for a make- over. Our room was newly refurbished, clean with excellent shower room (no bath). The bed was very comfortable and the lighting excellent except for the small low level lights beside the bathroom door and in the bathroom, a good idea - if they worked. Our room overlooked the road on one side and the other side the window was frosted glass so we assumed not a good view??? But we were not disturbed by the traffic. We were travelling with my parents and their room was much bigger (for the same rate with a bath and shower but no view as their one window was frosted). There were ongoing works to the hotel but it did not spoil our visit. We easily booked a table for 4 in the restaurant. The restaurant staff were pleasant but the first choice of 3 main courses was not available. The first three choices of wine were also not available which was strange as the wine list was in a luxury printed booklet which is obviously not changed very frequently, therefore one assumes that the wine would have been available in large quantities - obviously not. The fourth choice was ok, but it was our fourth choice. The evening meal was very good. Breakfast was plentiful but steer clear of the rubbery, tasteless scrambled egg. The stainless steel teapot lid did not close therefore it went cold quickly and the restaurant with very large picture windows showing the view onto the beach, was freezing. The radiators were cold but we switched on an electric fire under the window for warmth. On the whole, they are trying very hard and we would consider coming back when the building work was complete. Ps make sure you give plenty of notice to get your car and don't leave anything in it you may need as it is parked at least 5 mins drive away from the hotel - you are ferried back and forth in their vehicle.

The hotel itself was very comfortable, staff were friendly, the food was excellent. Our room was nicely decorated. Location is great stunning views across the harbour from the restaurant, the bar and some of the rooms. Easy access to the beach and a short walk to St Ives town centre.

Service was a bit slow at times, and we didn't get fresh towels on one of the days, which was not a major oversight, but I'd expect these things to be perfect in a hotel of this price range.

Position of hotel and view from dining room.

Room 211 on main road view was of 4 downspouts and walls of hotel. Not quite what I expected from the web site.

The view over the beach and harbour was lovely and listening to the sound of waves all night! Reception staff and spa staff were very helpful. Some restaurant staff seemed young and not as efficient - especially one morning - no-one seemed to be in charge.
