One member of the staff in particular was very friendly, joking around with us and helping us out with our room. We had great conversation and gave us advice about where to go at nighttime. When we (me and a friend) got to the hostel we had booked a place in a mixed dormitory. However, the staff informed us that as a large stag do had come in they had no room in the mixed dormitory and instead upgraded up to a private twin room for no extra cost was was a nice surprise. The hostel is excellent location right next to sea and about a ten minute walk for the Laines shops. It also had a Belushis bar downstairs which meant we had a social place to drink and dance warming up for our night out. This bar had a discount for hotel guests.
The breakfast on my booking form was promised as a 'free continental breakfast.' It was actuallly just cereal and toast rather than pastries and fruit etc which by the time we had checked out and got down to breakfast before it finished there was barely any left. They started to clear the breakfast whilst we were still eating too, and they took a long time to fill the hot water tank so tea was not available for ages. If I was to nitpick, our room had some errors too, however, for our short stay of one night and the fact we had a free upgrade it really didnt matter. We had only two plugs in the room, the tv was very old and didnt work, the wardrobe had an old tv still in it as storage and had panels coming off the wall, the plug in the sink was broken so water kept filling up to the top and over spilling a bit. There was no plug for the kettle. We just about managed to get the radio to work which was lucky as it was a very silent room to get ready in otherwise as the tv didnt work. There was no lock on the bathroom door, instead tissue had been shoved into the keyhole and it didnt close but as it was just me and my friend it didnt matter to us. We also ran out of loo roll quite quickly. The shower was amazing though - very powerful and warm. The hostel also provided a towel, soap and body wash which was good. If we went for a longer stay these might be issues of complaint but for a night or even a weekend it was really minor. The beds were comfortable and the windows opened which were the main things.

Secure rooms. Bathroom private to room. Very cheap.
Lack of proper curtains meant the sun woke us up very early, made worse by the loud sound of traffic outside.

We had a four person room which was really nice; spacious, comfortable and even had towels provided. The location is fab, in the heart of Brighton. The bar was reasonably priced and pretty busy on a Friday night. The free breakfast is simple ( tea, coffee, squash, toast and cereal) but fine.
Bar is pretty noisy till 2 but this is usual for a youth hostel and it was Friday night.

Cheap-n-cheerful, close to the beach, seafront and city life.
Too noisy at night, unless you're one of the people partying until 3 am.

Enjoyed the stay, however music too the early hours was very loud and was not the best preparation for the marathon the next day.

Location.
Room was smelly and filled with old homeless people. No change of room and no refund. Bit of a cess pit.

The location is sensational and bar really good for backpackers - only problems being drinks weren't backpackers prices (despite 10% discount), bar was understocked and they didn't have Red Bull.
The bathroom and room was really horrible and hadn't been cleaned. I've never been in a more filthy bathroom in 8 months of travel and backpacking. There was no hot water and the x-rated magazines next to the toilets was disgraceful considering it was a mixed dorm.

The location was brilliant!
It took literally 30 minutes to check in as the staff weren't really on top of things.

The location and the price
They over booked so one of my friends had to sleep on the sofa in the bar, she didn't get a wink of sleep all night. The service at the front desk was very very slow. Even slower at the bar. The staff didn't care and apart from one guy they were not helpful. Also we had to pay a £1 per item we stored for a few hours. The whole experience was very frustrating.
