  Gorgeous relic of the Victorian era, 20 foot ceilings in the bedrooms, huge marble bathrooms and garden or Nile views. If you are sensitive to noise, choose garden view - Luxonians spend much of their driving time on the horn. Food in La Corniche in the Old hotel was okay but not exceptional.

  Food in the coffee shop in the new hotel was awful.

  As a family of 5, we were given the presidential suite. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated. They provided many extra amenities to our room. I would still book a room overlooking the Nile because the views were spectacular, especially early in the morning when the hot air balloons would hover over the river.

  We had a glorious room on the 2nd floor overlooking the magnificent garden (I think garden rooms are much better as the front of the hotel has alot of traffic and many large ugly cruise ships on the Nile to spoil the peaceful view). Our room on the 2nd floor (221) was clean, spacious, full of character with a beautiful marbled bathroom and separate toilet. The hotel has so much character, the bar area, foyer, dining room are beautiful with a genuine feel of old charm and serene history. Having a drink in the bar is a wonderful experience.

  Although you are required not to wear "casual" clothes, this doesn't mean wildly smart either, apart from in the one dining room which looked a tad stuffy anyway! Oh yes, a wide variety of food to suit all tastes but it was stale, had been lying about for hours (if not days), much of it was inedable (and I'm not fussy!

  The staff were very obliging and attentive to the needs of guests at all times - the room had a nice balcony with a view looking to perfectly manicured gardens - fresh towels, flowers and petals on a down turned duvet all added to the luxurious surroundings - not to mention the thick bath robes! I have read other reviews of the hotel and find some of the comments to be unfounded - perhaps some were staying in the new or pavilion wings which are a little bit down market - however - guests there can - should they wish - if following the strict dress codes - enjoy the ambience and VIP treatment given to those guests who have paid that bit extra for the priviledge of enjoying the real Old Winter Palace!

  Once again, beautiful hotel, the rooms, again, are good. I would not rate them at 5 star rooms, BUT they were very nice, everything that you need is there. We had a Nile View room with balcony which was lovely as you get some treats, so we had them whilst sitting on the balcony whiching the crowds go by. The restaurant is very good as well, there are two, one VERY small and intimate, the other, also where breakfast is served, was very good. The whole property is beautiful, the staff are lovely, very friendly and exrremely helpful - no you dont have to be tipping everyone for everything, as long as your polite and friendly, they are happy to just chat with you.

  Our room was on the 6th floor therfore we had views accross the nile over the top of the cruise ships moored up. The staff were wonderful,helpful and friendly and doing a good job.

  The pool area is also dirty and should be swept and washed more regularly.

  Staff are mainly very attentive and helpful although the front desk staff can sometimes make you feel they are doing you a favour letting you stay! Overall probably the most atmospheric hotel in Luxor with good restaurants, pool and gardens.

  Very characterful and reminiscent of the days of the Empire but some of the bedrooms are looking very tired and the facilities are quite limited for a supposedly 5 * hotel.

  This hotel could not have been any friendlier, helpful, cleaner and completely at your service! Get a room with a view of the Nile, this is outstanding and took my breath away! We had clean bedding and towels EVERYDAY and at night had our sheets turned down with flowers and chocolates EVERYNIGHT. The food is wonderful with plenty to choose from, even the fussy eater would have plenty to eat! Not forgetting the resturant around the pool in the evenings.

  The gardens are outstanding and I would recommend a garden view rather than a Nile view, for two reasons : 1. We had a superior garden view room and it was huuuge! Very comfy bed and luxurious amenities – the plumbing was a little temperamental, but nothing too problematic. The 1882 restaurant was nothing like I expected – I expected a large, grand room and very formal atmosphere, in fact it is a very small intimate restaurant, we had one of the only three occupied tables! The food was nice but not outstanding, nowhere near as impressive as the restaurant and food at the Old cataract in Aswan, but very reasonably priced and the service was excellent.

  The Nile view rooms tend to be quite noisy and 2.

  Although we arrived at 8 am we were checked into our 2 rooms and what a delight. The gardens are absolutely amazing and very well looked after with a very welcome swimming pool. When you pick up your towles the staff walk ahead of you to find you loungers. It is in prime location across the road from the Nile and 5 minute walk to Luxor temple.
