The hotel food is excellent, european fare at very reasonable prices and the very pleasant front desk clerk spoke.
We did not try the hotel restaurants for dinner, but rather ate at several nearby outdoor cafés offering a variety of Brazilian and European fare at very reasonable prices.
Around the corner from the hotel is the Fort and there's this fantastic little brasserie Colombe (the food is excellent at a fair price) which is definitely worth a visit.
Most hotels over New Year require a 5-7 night minimum stay, and the prices can reach the range of the Sofitel's, actually, since the Sofitel only requires a 2-night package, and the other 3 nights were the normal discounted rate of $190/night.
Located on the famous beach, great location and value for money the Sofitel was the best of the three.
The location is great you like being right in the middle of all of the action and the hotel is ideally located at the quiet end of Copacabana beach.
Well located spot in copa, the hotel is in an excellent location and the service level is good.
They have their own black cars (more expensive than taxis) but excellent drivers/cars and probably worth the extra if you can afford it.
There is a police station out front for those concerned about safety, but we walked all around copa, ipanema and centro and had no problems at all.
Rooms, while slightly small, were very nicely appointed (fresh flowers in the bathroom, beautiful wood work, window in shower to see or bee seen into room).
The Room have the best bed I ever slep and all renovated, with LCD TV and a very nice shower.

Moreover concierge staff were wonderful, my room was sumptuous - amazingly comfortable bed and the terrace restaurant was great for all meals we ate outside.

Superior means that the view might not be that great, the Hotel also has 's own private security inside and bar: So there's this ritzy restaurant I didn't eat in.
The breakfast buffet is excellent, we didn't eat in the restaurant.
The breakfast ( included) is served at Atlantis restaurant , by the pool , with a wonderful view of the sea.

The terrace restaurant was great for all meals which we ate outside.
Additionally the Hotel is absolutely perfect and reception staff is very friendly and helpful.

There is a swimmers' elevator allowing those coming from the beach to avoid the lobby.
Nice gym, WONDERFUL pools--one with morning sun, the other with afternoon sun.
Great pool view, only negative side is that the sun at the pool ends very early cuz the hotel building covers the sun of the pool.
Furthermore all the staff we met proved friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and clean.
So if you book rooms for a whole group, try to clear this in advance!
