Sofitel Frances Santo Domingo

As we wanted to stay in the historic center the location was perfect.

You can walk to all the main sites except the Faro de Colon which in a cab would be pretty cheap.

Our room was small, especially with a roll away bed for the third person, and it was layed out rather strangely, but considering its age, it was fine.

My room featured 14 foot ceilings and lots of space, AC, cable tgv, great bathroom, ironing board and iron upon request, ample closet space, etc.

The standard of our room (especially the bathroom) didn't quite match the level of quality of the exterior, but it was still very nice.

Rooms are compact and have best circulation system I have ever encountered -- no blasts of freezing air with 12 foot ceilings, bathrooms are huge.

However, there was one evening where my room had no water.

The food at the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious.

Especilly the area around the lobby and the courtyard with bar and restaurant were very charming.

The breakfast was fine and the gentlemen in the bar served the best drinks we had during our 3 weeks stay in the DR.

En particulier, la zone autour du hall d’entrée et la cour avec un bar et un restaurant qui étaient très charmants.

Le restaurant de l’hôtel servait une excellente cuisine française dans le restaurant climatisé ou dans la cour selon sa propre convenance.

The service was great and the charming staff did a very good job.

Le service était excellent et le personnel, par ailleurs charmant, a fait un très bon travail.

The staff was charming and friendly, even remembering our names.

For this level of service I would find a B&B at half the price and without the lockdown mentality.

No pool either, no fitness center, also at the other hotel.

Access to pool, gym and internet several blocks away at sister hotel Nicholas.

After the loud hustle bustle of the city, it was a great pleasure to step into the cool, comfortable lobby.

We had just arrived trying to find places to stay downtown on a Carribean sweltering day, but I had to reject two other hotels after inspecting the rooms and finding them run-down and maybe not so clean.
