• The rooms need some refurbishment but are sufficient in size and cleanliness. This gives you extra sized rooms and also access to the Dynasty Club floor which has a free breakfast, daytime snacks and evening drinks. For recreation the pool is lovely and the gym is reasonable. In terms of restaurants the hotel has a good Chinese and Italian. In terms of transport the hotel organizes shuttle buses to the local metro station, weekend market (this is a great place for shopping) and also into the shopping/downtown district of Bangkok.

  We stayed in a Deluxe room for 4 nights at the beginning of our Thailand holiday. Arrived at 4am after our flight was delayed from Sydney and the staff were all lovely. We were intially placed in Twin room after requesting a King Bed however the staff were more than happy to move us the following day after a room was available. Although the hotel is about 15 minutes from the city (and 40 mins from the airport) they had a few courtesy shuttle buses leaving to Chidlom, Silom and Patpong throughout the day/night. We had a wonderful all you can eat seafood dinner buffet for ~800Bht per person with an exquisite desert buffet to top it off. The breakfast buffet also had a great variety of foods!

  The reception staff were perfunctorily helpful.

  However, we were surprised by the state of things: old, stained carpet, bathroom tub and sink, and bed sheets; tub with stains and hair; musty smell to the room. Perhaps other amenities may make up for the room's shortcomings which we weren't able to take assess due to our short stay.

  So our party were diveded in 3 rooms on the 10th and 11th floor. The staff had poor communications skills through out our stay for 4 days. I had to complaine 3 times before they changed the minibar and the 2 rooms that we were staying had also cans ans beers that were 1-2 years to old. In all the time the staff said that a mnager would contact me about the problems, but he/she never did contacted me or the rest of my family. When we finally checked out 4 days later, the staff agin requested the missing voucher that thay already had confirmed 3 times that they had. The "missing" voucher confirmed that we the rooms one more day, and had paid for these.

  The lobby is a bit old-fashioned but however pretty nice (if you like such "style" with cascades, flowers, golden finishing touches and so on). The Spa is small but ok and of course the service is excellent as typical in each Sofitel Centara Spa. There is also a swimming pool outside but as far as we could hear from other people, it doesn’t seem to be so frequented especially in the period we went. Rooms reflect also the 80's look in all their features but if you're lucky enough to get one at a higher floor, the view out of the window is pretty nice especially during the night.

  Sofitel Central Plaza is located in Lat Phrao, a very commercial and famous area on the north-west of this huge town: just imagine that taxi drivers did not know this hotel, or better, they often got confused with the other Sofitel in Silom Rd. By the beginning we were told by the Travel Agent that Sofitel Central Plaza was near the airport. Actually not, or let's say it is relatively closed to the old Bangkok Airport, now used for domestic flights, but very far (30 minutes by car) from Suvarnabhumi, the new International Airport which is the one of the most of travelers. So, considering the old-fashioned style and the location but being anyway a good hotel for all the rest of its features I'd say it can be a good choice for a short term stay or, in general, if it is booked within a "package" and you just get it.
