The “Bad” about the Marara: barking dogs and crowing roosters near the hotel, the hotel keeps about 10% on money exchanges and a very small boutique gift store with a very limited selection.
So if I had to rank the hotels I would if you had the money go for Hotel Bora Bora which is so stunning it is beyond belief, then intercontinental and then an overwater bungalow at the sofitel (either one of the sofitels on bora bora).
Also, the road behind the hotel is full of trash on the side of the road and local kids beg for money.
To save more money, you can also get decent sashimi and mahi mahi burgers at the sister hotel next door - Novotel.
We loved the location as the beach was fabulous for swimming and snorkeling and situated within walking distance of a grocery store and several shops and other hotels (unlike the Sofitel in Moorea which was close to the airport but not much else.
I think the location of the hotel was the best.
This is a magnificent hotel-Great location.
We were taken by boat to the Sofitel Marara from the airport.
One day, we hired a water taxi to take us to the Coral Garden snorkelling site which was absolutley stunning!
Our room looked out over to a small Motu (Island) it was fitted with airconditioning large flat screen TV, king size bed and ultra modern bathroom.
Inside the king bed looked out over the water and the bathroom was separated from the bedroom by a sliding wooden door.
Room was bigger, clean, bright, smells normally, new working air conditioner, LCD TV, enough of sockets in wall (for charging of cellular or camera for example), big safe-box (it fits freely my laptop), normal toilet and bathroom.
Additionally the staff is helpful, the room didn't have a bath tub and bar are spectacular.
Toilet and bathroom smells bad, conditioner don't work normally, remote control of TV don't work, lock of safe-box don't closed etc.
Our room was very large, the extensive breakfast buffet at the restaurant was great for our needs.
Hotel have beatiful sandy beach, freshwater 'infinity' pool, corals and fishes in lagoon, very comfortable deck chairs around pool, good bar and restaurant, spa complex.
We found that since our breakfast was included, that would be the only meal we ate at the resort.
Once again we had a meal plan which included breakfasts and all but 2 dinners.
Buy your Pareos at the hotel gift shop & jewelry on a table by the bar.
Hotel staff was very accommodating, service was pretty good and rooms were wonderful and comfy.
The service was ok but wasn't great, as the staff weren't very enthusiastic in helping and the service was slow.
The staff was wonderful, all the employees were very kind and accommodating, our room was spotless.
We spent 5 days of our honeymoon at the Sofitel Motu accross the water from the Beach Resort, but spend a lot of time, and ate most of our meals at the Beach Resort due to the terrible service at the Motu.
The beach was great, the pool area was fantastic and the food at the hotel was much better than we had imagined.

The infinity pool was situated so that when you’re in the water it seems like you’re in the ocean.
Good holidays in this hotel, the staff was very friendly and our room was clean.
The room itself is very clean and spacious, the food is pretty good.
Our room was spotless and was fitted exacty the way it was described on the hotel website.
