  The staff were all friendly and accomodting. The room (which had a seperate living room) was clean and spacious. The pool area is huge with plenty of sunbeds. At weekends Dominicans use the hotel and it did seem a lot busier but that was probably because it had been pretty quiet the rest of the week.

  We enjoyed everything about the resort, the staff, the food, the entertainment, and even the shopping. It is an hour long bus ride but gives you time to see the island, the landscape, the foliage, and the animals on the various farms. Our luggage was taken to our room and we decided to book our first night's a la carte dinner at this time so we could get a jump on it. Julio took care of us and we were given prime treatment from him! From what I gather, the Cocotal is more hotel room whereas the Tropical side are junior suites with a living room and tv area as well as a bedroom. The only drawback of the resort is the fact that the pool closes at 6pm.

  The resort: The trip from the airport was not as bad as we expected. Finding food when it is closed is also not a problem.

  I have stayed all over the world in a variety of accommodation that rates from 5 Star Duluxe to 1 Star so I consider myself able to gauge a good 4 / 5 star hotel. My overall verdict on this hotel is that it is competitively priced and as always, you get what you pay for. If you are on a budget and you want 4 / 5 star facilities such as a a spa, tennis courts and several restaurants, small casino, you are going in a group of families, or have a family that you need to keep entertained this place would be great because it is large enough and impersonal enough for you to kind of get lost in it and do your own thing.

  It was very clean but tired and I would struggle to give the rooms 3 stars. There are not enough sun loungers to accommodate the number of guests and we often had to lay on the beach on a towel or go out at FIVE AM to bag a bed, which I would not expect at a 4 star resort.

  The first day we got there we had a minor problem with getting a "empty room " because each time we got a room there was someone already in there.

  5 of us fitted in one suite no probs at all, got clean towels and maid service everyday!

  Once I did get my room I was really surpised that I had a suite. With 7 a la cartes and 2 great buffets meant no 2 meals had to be the same.

  The fountains by the main building were flooded always and looked like a swamp, the railings along the buffet retaurants were broken and rotten, the metal railings on the stair cases to the rooms were also all rotten. The room was dirty with dead bugs all over the walls, broken equipement in the room, light bulbs that were broken and left in the socket to rust, rust and mold all around the bathtub and doors. The maid never replaced towels unless we called the front desk time after time. Upon arrival we had no bedding for the two kids single cots. The door leading into our room was broken and was difficult to open. The reservation booth was a joke, no resevations in advance,but a man before me on the Thursday before leaving was reserving a spot for Monday, Imagine! The seating at the beach was horrilble, we litterly had to rise at 6am to reserve loungers for the day with two kids.

  Had we been given a suitable room from the start, in a reasonable amount of time, our experience would have been much better. Both had good service and good food as well. We did tip when we received quick & friendly service, and the staff seemed appreciative of this.

  My wife & I just returned from a 7 day, all-inclusive stay at the Sirenis Tropical Suites in Punta Cana. 5 hours bus-ride from the Punta Cana airport along very ill-maintained roads.
