  We were given an executive level room that was huge and very well appointed, including cocktails and breakfast for about $120.

  The hotel is not suited necessarily for the tourist traveler, however on the weekend I found that most sites are within a short and cheap taxi drive (21 RMB = $4 USD). As for the quality and service, my room was great. Clean, plenty of room, all the necessary amenities. All the restaurants are clean and the food is good.

  We chose an Executive Suite on the Club Floor. However upon checking in, it was so cramped we opted for a Premier Suite, which was much more spacious and not too much more money. This room was modern, had corner windows (unfortunately with all of the windows you are looking at the ugly industrial area of Suzhou), was very clean and had terrific bedding. Not a highlight, some was good (like the manager) other folks didn't seem to care as much. In the lounge we sometimse had attentive people, other times were were ignored by the staff.

  It is far better than the Sheraton, which we found quite dated and run down, with below average service.

  Room is nice, breakfast and lunch at the Cafe on the 1st floor were nice. I had to request a change to go to non-smoking section. Same thing for my room as I was given a smoking room.

  However, just like most places in China, the software (service) is not up to standards.

  After checking out various hotels in Suzhou, and didn't want to stay at Aster Hotel (looks great from outside, but inside rooms r too run down), I asked my travel agent for a good recommendation. I paid a bit extra, and they put me up on the 41st floor, with a room size of 60 to 65m2. French windows on both sides of the room (I had a corner room). I was there 2 nights only, and I skipped breakfast one moring, and had room service the 2nd day. Another great thing about this hotel is that it is 5 minute walk rom the Japanese street of bars and restaurants.

  From the moment we stepped out of the taxi the level of service was outstanding. The staff was always a few steps ahead of us in thinking of ways to make our stay more enjoyable, comfortable and pampered. We used the spa, gym facilities, club lounge--all excellent. However, the generosity of the staff compelled us to write this review.

  We hired a car from the hotel to pick us up from the PuDong Airport in Shanghai and he was waiting for us once we received our luggage. We were immediately taken to our room where the check in process was completed. The room and bathroom were both nice sized and well appointed. The beds were comfortable and the hotel even had the buckwheat pillow that I requested before the stay. The view from our room on the 45th floor was of the local amusement park, and had it not been foggy/smoggy/cloudy could've been a great one, but the conditions didn't exactly lend to the view. We ate at Cafe Soo and Suntory and the food and service was good at both.

  I was sharing a room and it wasn't crowded at all.

  The room was magnificent, and the staff was extremely helpful. The hotel featured a wonderful breakfast buffet that included both Western breakfast items as well as Chinese and Japanese selections.

  The deluxe room I booked is on the 36th floor, and comprises a large sleeping area, a separate sitting area and a large bathroom. The sitting area has it's own TV, and 2 floor to ceiling windows. Likewise the bedroom has its own flat screen TV built in to the wall in front of the bed. The room is large, spotless, perfectly decorated. Importantly the bed is comfortable, and is a pleasure to sleep in. The fitness centre has a good range of equipment, and the Spa next door is beautiful and reasonably priced (higher than the alternatives outside, but it was worth it). This is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in - and I've stayed in a lot, and at 150 USD a night including breakfast, it's certainly the best value.
