Overall, the major pros of the Sandpiper are the budget-friendly cost, above average rooms (based on hotel class and price) and good location.
This hotel was a great find for the price, the housekeeping staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, the room was clean.
First off, you can really beat the price of this hotel.
I would have given this hotel 4 stars based on the value if it wasn't for the roaches that we found roaming around in our bathroom in the middle of the night.
A quiet location on the top end of State Street, have a good price value and the rooms are very clean.
The location was excellent, the staff was very helpful in calling a cab and fast food can be had within walking distance.
Good location to business meetings I was attending and the hotel was very clean.
You can find gas stations within a minute's worth of driving.
I took the number 11 bus, also 3 and 6 goes there, from downtown.
The front desk had no other king bed rooms to put us into, so they gave us a second floor apartment unit.
Kitchenette, balcony, large bath tub in the bathroom and decent living room.
When we arrived they gave us 1 bed and told us we would have to pay more to get a room w/ 2 beds.
Rooms are dirty with cockroaches on the walls above the bed, along the baseboards and running across the bathroom counter as your brushing your teeth.
I've stayed in a King Deluxe room (room 217), which if fully equipped with a very comfortable king sized bed.
Breakfast was fairly basic but there are many restaurants/supermarkets in the area if you want something else.
If you like walking then this is fine, even better if you have a car and it takes 2 minutes to get in to the centre with all the bars, restaurants and shops.
The Sandpiper Lodge is located on the same street (State) as many of the shops and restaurants in Santa Barbara, though it is probably two miles from them.
The staff was friendly, quiet upstairs room was great and breakfast had nice fresh bakery products.
It was actually one of the better breakfasts that we encountered on our holiday.

Great rates, very customer service oriented staff doing their best and the exercise room was very nice.
The pool and spa were much appreciated by the kids and the location is very convenient as a great bakery is nearby as well as a variety of shops and restaurants suiting all budgets (Aja and Kyoto are in walking distance and are top picks in Fodors).
Housekeeping in the morning was great, very friendly and helpful.
The motel was packed to capacity and it was difficult to find a parking space AND fit into a slot with a large vehicle.
The drawback to the business aspect is that internet is only available in oldschool dial-up; no LAN or WAN connections.
They have free wireless internet now which made me very happy.
Clean and comfortable room, the breakfast most enjoyable, employees just great and helpful.
Furthermore the room were very clean and updated.

The office staff was both friendly and helpful and the room was very clean (important to us) and neat.
