Individual guest reviews

The room is spacious, modern and comfortable. It's located at one of the main streets, pedestrianized area so nice and quiet. They have a deal with one of the parkings nearby. The staff is very kind and helpful.

Opening a window is impossible unless you ask reception for it and even then all you can get is slight ajar. For this reason the air in the hotel is heavy. The breakfast at £9-11 is too expensive, I used one of the local places for half that rate. There were tons of dust on the back of furniture pieces.

Great location, near train station, shops, sports stadium & restaurants.

Unfortunately we were in a corner room which was tiny, not suitable for 2 travelers. All the floor space is taken up with 2 sets of drawers so there is no space for suitcases, let alone a 'stand' for ones case(s). No tissues in the bathroom :(. I would stay here again, but be asking for a larger room.

Very good location, excellent staff and excellent value for money. Good room, good checking in and out times.

I would have liked an iron in the room

    Location

Room603 was terrible; it had a little window towards the ceiling, which made the room feel like a jail ceil, the toilet stunk, dusty air duck, and the room smelled dusty. The bed was slanted to one side caused me to fall off the bed during the night. The redhead receptionst offered us newspapers only to inform us that we would be charged when we were checking out. Breakfast was included but you had to order it through the menu (except basic bread and coffee), however, the waiter never came to take our order.

I was very disapponted to be charged an extra £2.00 for paying by credit card. I was not aware of this from your website and think it is a rip off, particularily as I was not given any choice. The hotel's machine was down (along with it's phone system on Monday night ) and I left my bag at the hotel and came back to collect my bag I had left with the hotel. Although I was then given a receipt it was not until I got home that I realised I had been charged this amont. I have not paid this elsewhere. Are you or the hotel going to publicise this rip off?

Excellent location: wife went shopping, I went to a rugby match and in the evening we ate and drank in excellent pubs and a restaurant. Our room was clean, spacious and very quiet. The reception staff were very polite and friendly. Our deal didn't include meals so we can't comment on the food.

All in all an excellent service, staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and immaculately clean. This is the second time me and my partner have stayed at the royal hotel and it definitely did not disappoint. Highly recommended. The location is fab, close to the shops/and restaurants.

the location was brilliant and the staff is very nice and helpful

i think it was presented as a 4 star hotel which i think is not really true. i would guess of it more as a 3 star hotel

The location and also the price was within our budget.

The parking was quite a distance from the hotel and made it quite difficult to carry the amount of luggage that we had (I have a back injury). It also wasn't very clear that was where we had to park.

This hotel was a great find. Right in the city centre, 5 mins walk from Cardiff Central station and Cardiff Castle, literally across the street from the Victorian shopping arcades, it couldn't be more central, and it's ultra modern and luxurious. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. The breakfast was epic. Even the bath products were great, featuring paraben-free beeswax products.

There was a worrying strip of black mold along the bathtub of room 308 but everything else was perfectly clean.
