The duplex suite was fine, with the bedroom/bathroom on the upper level, but again, very, very warm at night.

I think that one solution is to inquire about this when booking and ask not to be in the section of rooms where there will be kids and not to be in the same dining room with them.

I have stayed in nearly every room at one time or another and found that the rooms in the old portion of the hotel are generally quieter and comfortable.

For an alternative but almost equally exquisite cuisine visit the relatively nearby Franz Tanner restaurant who actually is a friend of the Winklers.

We have eaten in other 3 star Michelin restaurants in France, and the food does compare, as well as the cadre of people serving you.

The desk staff made a huge deal that this was the only way you could eat in their restaurant.

During our week, we dined 3 evenings in his restaurant.

Thus, if a visitor is absolutely in need of top luxury hotel accommodations, at certain times of year it is best to book at one of Munich or Salzburg's top hotels and hire a car and driver to visit the Residenz restaurant.

Being 4 years ago, I cannot remember much detail about the meal, other than there seemed to be a separate waiter specialized for each course, the service was excellent, and the food glorious.

The hotel is quite lovely in many ways and the staff is very kind.

The windows open to the fresh country air, a better accommodation would be one of the many rentals or BB's in the area and staff know very well they are doing.

I have never experienced either problem, and further find the supposed indifference of staff amazing.

The reviewer is obviously well-traveled, so I imagine he has had his share of encounters with indifferent hotel staff, but this one astonishes me.

If you stay overnight, take bathing suits and enjoy the indoor pool and saunas.

This is not to say that there might not be any 20-year old budding gourmets, or teenagers who don't like to swim in the subterranean pool, but Aschau is not a town calibrated to youth.
