Residence Il Casale Cortona - 哥尔顿

It was a great location for taking side trips (we loved Cortona, Assisi, and Siena) but a car is difinitely necessary.

The location is walking distance to grocery and hike to Cortona.

Would reccomend this location to anyone interested in touring Tuscany with a few days to soak in the sun by the pool.

It is very reasonable to take a taxi if you wish to enjoy a few drinks in Cortona's ancient square).

During late May 2004, we spent 4 pleasant nights with Sig Vittorio and Signorina Alessandra at Il Casale at the foot of the mountain village - Cortona.

Our apartment was quite large, with a bedroom, living room/dining room, full kitchen and two bathrooms.

We were travelling with our 15 year old son and 17 year old daughter, so having the extra space of a spacious 2 bedroom apartment was a welcome treat from hotel rooms.

The bedroom had a double bed (really two singles pushed together) plus another single bed, antique dresser, chest and wardrobe.

Each bathroom contained a toilet, sink and shower, but no bathtub.

Our unit Gardenia, they seemed to all be named for flowers, was a one floor, 2 bedroom, one bath small /compact efficiency apartment.

It is a small owner run restaurant and the service and food were just great.

Breakfast was simple and satisfying - pastries, cereal, yoghurt etc and the service was very good.

We cooked our own breakfasts and a couple of nights dinner too.

No breakfast was included but you could go across the road to the owners other property, Villa Baldelli, where for 13 Euro you could get a continental breakfast.

We begin in the morning going to the swimming-pool and then after our breakfast we went to visit wonderful places because we really were near the best places (Pienza, Montepluciano, Siena, Assisi.

The maid service is once per week although you can arrange and pay for more frequent cleanings.

Friendly and helpful staff, good internet connection.

When the wireless service does work, the charge is exhorbitant, but they gave us a reduced price after our complaints.

On the grounds you could enjoy a clean, spacious pool, a garden area with chairs and tables, picnic and barbecue facilities, and a laundry room (washers only, no dryers but drying racks).

The grounds were lovely and it was fun to come back and hang out at the pool in the afternoon.

The parking is outside the walled city and free.

Our major complaint was that, contrary to their website and the information on Booked.net, there is no internet anywhere on the grounds, wireless or otherwise.

The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the staff friendly.
