For the money you pay for this hotel, you get a nice, clean room, but no extra amenities as other luxury hotels would give you.
The service at the hotel was friendly and low-key, the price amazingly low with our special deal, and things couldn't have been better.
Parking was a bit overpriced, but otherwise, nice hotel.
We stayed at the Portola Hotel over Memorial Day weekend and found it to be an "average" hotel, not worth the money.
The location is perfect, close to the historic fisherman's warf and just a short drive down to Carmel.

The room itself was fairly comfortable, with a large spotless bathroom, good beds, the outside wall has shutters over a balcony with sliding glass doors so you can have as much (or as little) fresh air as you want.
The king size bed was decorated so nicely!
The breakfast bar food at Jacks Restaurant that came with the room everyday was soooo yummy.
As if we didn't have enough to eat, our package also came with a gourmet breakfast at their in-house restaurant, Jack's.
The lobby, restaurant and bar were very nice.
We booked a package deal which included Aquarium tickets and breakfast at Jack's (very nice restaurant in the hotel).
Airy, comfortable, pleasing lobby and indoor/outdoor bar/restaurant areas to relax, read a book, or wait for friends.
The funny thing is that as she was processing my paperwork, I had a chance to hear the other employees behind the front desk; they all seemed to provide the same great service as the girl helping me.
The location was wonderful for everything, the service at the hotel was friendly and romantic and the staff was great.

Some drawbacks: parking fee, no a/c, and you must walk outside to access the pool/gym.
