In summary, great location, hotel itself a fairly decent three star standard but staff not interested to the point of being rude.

Its easy to tell your cab drive that you are next to the university of Chile (also the metro stop).

As others have commented, the location is excellent with a huge range of shops, eating establishments, banks/ATMs, a metro station, and a park all either across the road or within a.

The room was spacious, with a nice large bed, lots of storage, internet in the room (for an additional fee) and spacious and well-equipped bathroom.

When arriving at the hotel, I was impressed with the size of the room, and some of the comforts, including the bed and bathroom, especially for South American standards.

For tall people like me the 7' ceiling moldings felt a bit low, but otherwise the room was pleasant and the bed comfortable as were the pillows.

Our room was spotless, the bathroom immaculate and the double paned glass windows a welcomed shelter from the street noise below.

We felt the inclusive American breakfast was excellent, but the lobby bar area was distinctly unappealing and very costly compared with alternatives outside of the hotel.

Contrary to some recent reviews we received a warm welcome on arrival and throughout our 3 night stay had excellent service from the concierge/reception teams who were most helpful in arranging restaurant bookings, taxis, etc.

This kind of reception is very guest friendly, because the staff sits in a lower position when you enter.

The staff/management at the San Francisco have a long way to go in terms of service - even the locals were complaining which says it all really.

The staff was very helpful and the manager came to me to check the amount was correct.

Fine maids kept our room immaculate and the bell boys and security staff were ever present to lift my chair up and down the few stairs in the attractive lobby area.

The hotel pool is very nice, but there is too much clorine.

The lobby has to be one of my favorites-- you have a true feel for Santiago-- you won't find in an American hotel.

It was large, clean and the bathroom sufficient.

Sure, some of the rooms need some refurbishing - but always clean and comfortable.
