  The rooms are large, immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated. All of the rooms are centered around the hotel pool, which is one of the highlights of the complex. The restaurant staff were also very flexible and appeared happy to concoct veggie dishes out of the blue for us.

  This is an excellent and good value hotel with a mix of guests - local, foreign, business and leisure. It has a great saltwater pool with plenty space and loungers. There's also a brand new gym but not all the equipment is functioning yet. They have satelite TV and minibar, bath and a table and chairs inside and out. The bar is lively and the upmarket restaurant serves a good range of fish and meat dishes. The establishment is very well managed with polite and friendly staff who all speak good English. It is located in an upmarket part of Praia about 5 mins drive from Plateau and 10 mins from the airport. Taxis are always available and the hotel has a car hire desk. It seemed a bit unnecessary as the local people we met in Praia (and Santiago) were all friendly and no hassle at all.

  The staff are friendly and helpful but the hotel could do with updating, i e bathrooms, and does not deserve its #1 rating. Hotel Avenida in Assamada very clean, twice the value of Praia,if you have time and transport).

  Tropico big minus is the very very poor and expensive food.
