Charming old hotel, unique rooms, bravo!
Lovely building and rooms with a view to the duomo. Historic area, central location so close to including the cisterns, the centre of town and all the best restaurants for lunch and dinner by simply walking down the hill.

We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Palazzo Gattini. It was a surprise birthday trip for my husband and our first trip as a married couple. The breakfast was plentiful and they catered to my vegan diet. The location was perfect, with stunning views of the town and the Duomo. The spa facilities were relaxing and private. Highly recommended!
100% Recommend this hotel.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The location was perfect, situated in the PDuomo area at the top of the historic sassi district. We were able to easily explore the beautiful city of Matera on foot. The hotel facilities were excellent, and we especially enjoyed the rooftop space with its stunning view of the sassi area. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, providing us with great recommendations for activities and places to visit in the city. The cleanliness of the hotel was top-notch, and the breakfast was delicious, with a variety of options to suit everyone's tastes.
All was good.

The rooms are stunning and the location amazing. Probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, mostly because of the room design but also because even though it is in a grand old building there is still a lot of charm, quirkiness and attention to detail

Entering the hotel is a step into grandeur. The Palazzo’s foyer is a high and long, barrel vaulted structure constructed from the local tufa, a limestone like rock endemic to the area. Your reception desk awaits you, a grand walk away. Very “Last Year at Marienbad”! The guests all talk sotto voce here. Is it intimidation? Make no mistake about it. This is one of the world finest luxury hotels. The public rooms, all polished off-white, beige-ish tufa are impressive. Our room (207) was perhaps the best, or certainly in the top five, of all the hotels we have stayed in. My superlative list of adjectives is not up to an adequate description. There are many photos available on websites. We are very glad that we chose the Palazzo Gattini for three nights to savor the atmosphere of this wonderful city.
. There were some issues which I feel are worth noting, particularly for a hotel of this stature. Our arrival in Lecce today and our hotel here emphasize some deficiencies at the Palazzo. Firstly, even with a GPS we could not get to the hotel. We had to park the car. One stayed in the car and the other, who speaks Italian asked walking directions and found the hotel. They sent someone to lead my partner to the hotel. We talked to another couple who had the same problem. Secondly, this is a “spa hotel”. Our bathroom was equipped with a “Jacuzzi” type bathtub. I did not fuction. This feature would have been wonderful if it worked after hiking the steep pathways of the Sassi. Thirdly, the reception staff could have been more helpful. Upon a Friday afternoon arrival we opted to dine in the hotels fabulous restaurant, but asked for a reservation to be made at another restaurant for Sautrday evening, one which friends raved about from an earlier visit to Matera. We did not learn that the restaurant was closed, permanently until one hour before our planned reservation time on Saturday night. The hotel did use their influence to get us a table at a great restaurant after several uncomfortable phone calls. In general I found the front desk staff to be a bit stiff. Fourth. The lighting in the rooms was fabulously subtle. Great from a chic interior design point of view, but lacking in practicality. One cannot read in the rooms and one cannot see in the bathroom for cosmetic purposes.

This hotel is truly superb and is certainly deserving of its 5 star label. The rooms are gorgeous with the finest details taken care of, the hotel design is extraordinary, the service impeccable, and the location totally perfect. Our room balcony provided us gorgeous views of this amazing city, and we were absolutely disappointed that we only planned to stay one night. Stepping out of the front door of the hotel, you are directly on the Piazza Duomo, The hotel is directly next to the Duomo itself. Perfect Perfect Perfect. We even brought four children to the hotel, and they were treated like gold. Smart staff.
Breakfast could be much better. Even by European breakfast standards, this wasn't as grand as one might expect from a five star hotel. No breakfast meats, meager eggs, some bread, a few yogurts, a little cheese, juice, and not much more.

Nice and helpful service.
Air conditionning wasn't working really well and in the room description it was mentioned that for this rate, we would have a terrace or a balcony and it wasn't the case.

This hotel is located right in the center of the historic part of the city, known as the sassi. It offers a convenient base for exploring the area and is just across from the Duomo. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with large beds and well-appointed bathrooms. The staff are friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant stay. The breakfast is varied, with a range of options available. Additionally, the hotel has a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of the surrounding area, perfect for relaxing outdoors.
There are some issues with the hotel's signage, making it difficult to navigate and find certain facilities.
