Being a traveler from New England and being used to the prices in Boston and New York, I found that this hotel was very nice for the price.
In summary, I would not pay full price to stay here, but if you can get a good rate and expect to be out and about most of the time, then the hotel is tolerable.
Having said that, the location and price that we received made up for shortcomings of the hotel room.
Every other hotel has gladly accepted extra money without ever noting that tip was already included.
The location of this hotel is great-- it is very centrally located to everything a visitor would want.
Great location centrally located on the Riverwalk, really neat decor and the in-house balladeer a good singer.
The location was close to all downtown attractions and the riverwalk.
The location was great for seeing San Antonio on foot and by public transport.
When you're ready to go back to the airport, the hotel car will take you for the same price as a cab if it's available, so be sure to ask the valet.
Don't get me wrong, the room was nice albeit small, the bed was SUPER comfortable, linens were soft and comfy, bath was marble and tastefully appointed (again, small).
Bathrooms were clean as well, except that I noticed that the bath robes hanging in the bathroom were a little stained.
I don't know if some rooms were renovated and others weren't which might explain some the negative reviews, but the room I stayed in was extremely clean, had new tile in the bath (no mold at all), and the service during my stay was impeccable.
When we first arrived in our room, I plopped down on the bed and happened to notice a small (very small) stain that appeared to be blood.
King-size bed takes up most of the floor space in the room.
We had wonderful food in the restaurant and in the bar.
We had originally made reservations for their restaurant for breakfast but due to our myriad of problems we opted not to eat in the hotel restaurant.
San Antonio is brimming with wonderful and fun restaurants so we seldom dine in the hotel, however we usually have breakfast there.
I ordered the standard breakfast, it was pretty good, the second night i ordered from the restaurant menu, they screwed up my order and it took longer but it was cheaper and good.
The Las Canarias Restaurant in the La Mansion may be the best Breakfast or Brunch on the Riverwalk.
All the staff in the hotel were attentive and concierge service was good.
And the front desk staff, the bellmen and concierge make you feel very welcomed at the hotel.
I especially appreciated the way the valet attendants opened the door to the lobby area as I crossed through the parking garage to my meeting.
Very very very warm hallways/elevator, food good and the pool looked nice in pictures.
The public spaces, especially the artwork frames, the elevators and the lobby restrooms show some signs of wear.
One final comment - the hotel should have offered free wireless internet.
Not just for internet access (not even wireless, but late '90's ethernet cord internet) they also charged for local calls.
Furthermore the staff is very nice, the rooms are spacious and clean.
To some of the other high-end hotels near the La Mansion, accommodating staff and the rooms were very clean.
Every staff member is friendly, rooms are clean.
A very beautiful place, attentive service and the rooms were clean.
Also the rooms are clean, the food is good.
