Usually I prefer Marriott hotels, but since I was in Charlotte for a wedding and the bride had arranged a good price of $79/night, I said we would stay there.
Couple this with the requirement to use your room key on and off the elevator, no gift shop, and an air unit that blows luke warm air and you have one overpriced, over-rated hotel.
I travel on a regular basis and I've never had to pay to use a hotel computer to print my boarding passes.
When I went to Charlotte for a conference about 8 months ago I stayed at the Hilton, which was no better a hotel than the Omni (although the trolley and convention center are right behind the Hilton), and costs twice as much.
Although the hotel is located in a “prime” location within walking distance to various venues, I was expecting it to be a little more upscale than it was.
The location is great and stay at the Westin is clean and beautiful.
The location is great for exploring Uptown and the mall area under the hotel is very convenient.
Moreover neat place to grab a few drinks before heading out on the town and the parking underground is very reasonable.
Needless to say I called a city cab to ensure I got back to the hotel safely.
The hotel is an older property, so the rooms are standard-issue and the bathrooms are small (sink outside, with toilet and tub in a small room).
The bathroom has a rather large sink area and a separate room for the shower/tub and toilet.
On our recent stay we found our rooms clean, appealing bed, pleasant smelling, and no mold in the bathrooms.
It's one thing after another: bed bugs and flying bugs in the room, hair dryer sounds like it's almost going to set on fire, took 10 mins to wait for elevators (they were all only going down, not up, and would not stop for 10 mins!
The rooms were well appointed, nice toiletries, and the bed was FANTASTIC.
We ate Sunday morning breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel and it left a little to be desired, but still wasn't bad.
The hotel is located within walking distance to several restaurants (Zink Restaurant was our favorite) and clubs, as well as the convention center.
The hotel is attached to a mini-mall (Overstreet Mall), which has a Starbucks, several quick-stop restaurants, a wine shop, a small Belk store, an ATM as well as a clothing store; and an office building housing 20 or so businesses.
The restaurant was empty when I visited and I decided to go out to eat.
Good quick service in the bar area, comfortable stay and the lobby is nice.
Front desk service was very professional, the concierge was able to make good recommendations for shopping and the beds were comfortable.
There was no separate concierge service (at least during the weekend), however the front desk helped a great deal.
Ps: Elevators were just fine, the towels were the best towels and pool were also great.
Finally -- minor complaint -- the access to the parking garage through an entirely different set of elevators was a bit confusing.
The parking garage is connected to the hotel, although you must switch elevators in the hotel (2 minute walk max).
There wasn't any high-speed Internet unless you rented one of their wireless connectors from the front desk.
If you already have wireless, you should be good to go, but connectivity might be a little difficult to configure.
Of great restaurants around the area, on our recent stay we found our rooms clean and the staff was exceedingly helpful.
The hotel rooms were clean and staff here was exceptional.
