  We just returned from an absolutely awesome vacation in Freeport, Bahamas, thanks to the wonderful staff at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club and Resort. We stayed in a very spacious 2 Bedroom Townhouse that included a fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful view. For transportation just walk out to the end of their driveway and the public buses will stop and pick you up for $1. Our initial thought was to rent a vehicle but unless you are really accustomed to driving on the wrong side of the road with speed limits that are pretty much non-existent I would recommend taking the public bus. If you are not into cooking on vacation there is an excellent restaurant at the resort called Groupers. Once you’re downtown there is Burger King, McDonalds, Subway, KFC, etc. The resort also provided daily shuttle runs at 10:00 a. The resort has 2 very clean pools, and a hot tub.

  Service is great - the resort is small enough that everyone is treated like family! We had 3 br/3 bath townhouse and it was fantastic! Has complete kitchen so you can take advantage of their shuttle trips to grocery store and cook some meals if you like. The restaurant (Groupers Grill) has great meals from breakfasts thru dinner with specials every day. Menu has some very good local dishes and many other good meals. The nearest public beach is about a mile away but they have shuttle service to the beach if you don't want to walk and even have car and scooter rental on site if you want to be more independent.

  The front desk people were very friendly and helpful. The activities sales woman was also very friendly. Hayward the resort taxi driver was the best.

  We booked a two bedroom, but were a day late arriving, so they gave us two one bedrooms. They were very spacious, each having it's own room, jaccuzi, living room, kitchen, and patio.

  The resort does hae a taxi but it is expensive to take. Lastly, they made a mistake by sending a maid in our room to clean up.

  The rooms were not updated as advertised when we booked through RCI. The 2 bedroom single level has a jacuzzi in the middle of the master bedrrom. The jacuzzi was stained and hardly inviting. There was minimal lighting in the bathroom and the tile in the shower was old and stained.

  Overall, Freeport was nice, and our room was nice except. 1 bedroom units are paper thin, it feels like your neighbors are right on top of you.

  Also, since the staff has relationships with outfitters/tours in the area, they don't want you to know about any other activities on the island except the ones they promote (make commission off of).

  We stayed at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club in October, 2007, the resort was nice and clean, spacious rooms and great air-conditoner! If your looking for low keyed resort this is it, though it could be because we were there off season, though they did have some fun activities a couple of nights at the resort which were fun and reminded us of cruise line games with the people staying at the resort, Hayward, the taxi drive was great! I suggest renting a car though if you are looking to go off the resort more than once a day, because taxi rides get expensive, $12. The casino was fun, and we went to the Wyndham hotel and hung out at their resort, All and all Bahamas is a nice place to see and visit, but not a whole lot to do, more value for your money in mexico, but it is a beautiful place to see, and lots of cool beaches you can drive to and have it to yourself, but you need a car.

  We booked a two bedroom, but were a day late arriving, so they gave us two one bedrooms. They were very spacious, each having it's own room, jaccuzi, living room, kitchen, and patio. They were slow, rude, and you had to go to them to order a drink or a meal. There is a general slow, rude, non service minded attitude on the islands that I do not wish to be force to tolerate while on vacation.

  The only nice thing about the place is the staff in reception who tried to be as heplful as there jobs would let them be.

  My son pulled his covers on his bed and there were silver fish in the bed. The bar was shut most nights at eigh,t and when my son went to have a game of poole some of the balls were missing.

• Paradise on Earth

  This resort is so beautiful. What a wonderful experience. Took a family of 8 in a 3-bedroom villa. Total cost was under $3500 including airfare from the East coast. This is the best bargain in the Bahamas. Three years ago I took my family to Harborside in the Bahamas. The trip cost our family over $11,000...what a waste of money and the beach was had so much people on it. We had three times as much fun in Freeport without the cost. I purchased a 3-bedroom at a resale site for under $5000. I am planning on taking my family on a vacation to the Ocean Reef Yacht Club and Resort every year. My kids 7-13 don't even remember our Disney vacations.
