All in all, a reliable hotel for a reasonable price.
If you get a good price on the hotel - I would recommend it because the rooms are decent, the staff are wonderful, and the location is in the heart of downtown Ottawa.
My boyfriend and I were traveling on a budget and we were both amazed at the service of this hotel for the price.
The hotel restaurant is good quality and value and parking is underground at a $12CDN per day charge.
The location was perfect, we enjoyed the hotel because was centrally located for all the activities we had planned to do and no cancellation price of $95 per night was very reasonable.
The location was perfect for moi as it is walking distance to the Byward market (5 mins), Parliament building (10 mins) and other tourist attractions in the area.
While we would generally recommend the Novotel for it's great central location and lovely room there are a few complaints.
Finally found a spot with about one foot on either side between cars.
The underground parking lot was a bit of a maze and was also undergoing construction making for some narrow fits with the car.
The room had two double beds with very nice duvets, a flat screen tv, a desk with desk chair and the bathroom was really nice as well.
When we finally got to the room there was no crib, just a big king sized bed.
Bed was comfortable, room was clean and nice basic decor.
There is literally no room for a workspace and the bed is quite hard.
Bed was great, only one elevator was functional and the evening meal was excellent as was the buffet breakfast.
I can't comment on the breakfast buffet as I didn't use it, but the restaurant service and food was very good on the one evening we ate there.
Because I'd received coupons for the restaurant, we decided to eat there twice and the food was very good, although there are not that many items on the menu.
I wanted something close to shops and restaurants and I don't think I could have picked anything closer.
THE GOOD: convenient cental location, 5 minutes to the Byward Market with numerous restaurants and shops, you can also walk to the museums and the Parliament Buildings in about 15 minutes.
Restaurant serves excellent food, however due to being so close to the market, it is never busy.
The location was perfect for a conference at the Congress Centre, the hotel was very clean and the staff on reception were friendly.
This location was an excellent only one block away, the Hotel staff were very nice and polite, the ladies at the front desk were very accomodating.
Staff are courteous but I did not like two things; internet access is charged in the lobby unless you have your own laptop; a basket of goodies sits temptingly on the dresser but lift anything and you will be charged.
The elevator finally made it to the lobby, where two gentlemen waited for me.
